Job Overview:
The SBC & Partnerships Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the health and well-being of children in Zanzibar through the development and implementation of Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) strategies. This position involves providing technical and operational support for creating evidence-based strategies that integrate SBC into program development and planning. The officer will also work on strengthening partnerships with various stakeholders, including the private sector and civil society organizations, to advocate for children's well-being and support resource mobilization efforts. The role requires a deep understanding of social and behavioral sciences to effectively engage communities and influence positive change.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the design and development of SBC activities by conducting comprehensive situation analyses and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data to inform strategy development.
  • Collaborate with partners to implement SBC activities, ensuring community engagement and maximum outreach.
  • Provide cross-sector support for SBC, Gender, adolescence, and Early Childhood Development (ECD) programming, addressing negative social norms and enhancing awareness of children's rights.
  • Strengthen RCCE preparedness and response systems within key ministries, co-leading efforts to ensure timely information exchange and community resilience.
  • Build and maintain partnerships through networking and collaboration with civil society organizations and other stakeholders to promote UNICEF's mission.
  • Institutionalize best practices and knowledge sharing, providing technical support in monitoring and evaluation, and managing program funds effectively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in social and behavioral sciences, including sociology, anthropology, communication studies, psychology, or a related field. A minimum of two years of professional experience in social development program planning, communication for development, or public advocacy is required. Experience working with government entities and relevant experience in a UN agency is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field such as social and behavioral sciences is required for this position. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of social change and the factors influencing community behavior.

Experience:
The position requires at least two years of professional experience in areas related to social development, communication for development, or social and behavior change. Experience in public advocacy and partnerships, particularly within a UN context, is highly valued and considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Swahili is mandatory for this role. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, or a local language, is advantageous and will enhance communication with diverse stakeholders.
