Job Posting Organization:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) was established in 1951 and is a Related Organization of the United Nations. The organization operates globally, with over 1000 projects implemented in more than 125 countries, addressing various migration-related challenges and capacity-building needs of Member States.

Job Overview:
The Intern for the IOM Development Fund will work under the guidance of the Administrator of the Fund or a delegated staff member. This position requires a high level of interaction with IOM field offices worldwide. The intern will gain valuable experience in an international multicultural environment, enhancing their understanding of IOM's work as an inter-governmental organization in the field of migration. The intern will also have access to online training courses available to all IOM staff, allowing for further professional development. The role involves supporting liaison with IOM’s Country Offices regarding project implementation, financial status, and adherence to funding criteria, as well as reviewing and editing financial and narrative reports in coordination with these offices. The intern will monitor active projects using the Project Information and Management Application (PRIMA) and assist in branding, outreach, and public relations activities related to the Fund.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the liaison with IOM’s Country Offices over project implementation, financial status of projects, and adherence to the funding criteria.
  • Review and edit financial and narrative reports in coordination with the Country Offices to finalize and submit the reporting package to the recipient’s government.
  • Monitor active projects using the Project Information and Management Application (PRIMA) and coordinate with IOM Country Offices.
  • Assist in branding, outreach, and public relations activities, including preparing PR material on the Fund for distribution to the field and respective governments, such as website revisions and newsletters.
  • Assist with the revision and update of the Fund information sheets, materials, and studies.
  • Draft presentations and reports on the Fund for use by Headquarters and the Country Offices.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong interest in global migration challenges and demonstrate computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Experience with InDesign and databases is considered an asset. The ability to produce quality work accurately and concisely according to set deadlines is essential. Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English and French or Spanish is required, along with strong writing, drafting, and communication skills. Candidates should have strong report editing skills and the ability to manage challenging timelines. Additionally, the ability to understand the organization’s structure and portfolios in a timely manner is necessary, as well as the ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues from varied cultural and professional backgrounds.

Educational Background:
A university degree in International Relations, International Affairs, Development Studies, Economics, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Law, or any related discipline is required. Candidates must have graduated from accredited universities listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience:
Internship-related experiences are required, particularly in the field of report writing and review. Previous experience in an international environment is an asset. Candidates should demonstrate practical experience in multi-tasking, prioritizing, and working independently. Experience in the production of leaflets, brochures, and other PR material is also advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English and French or Spanish is required, both oral and written. A working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, or Russian) is an advantage. IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish, and all staff members are required to be fluent in one of these three languages. Proficiency in the required languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
This internship is classified as an internship, with a duration of three months and the possibility of extension. The position is aimed at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in areas relevant to IOM programs and activities. Candidates must be either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated within the last 12 months. Candidates must also be between 20 and 36 years of age. IOM provides a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, and candidates are advised to consider the cost of living in Geneva prior to applying.
