Job Overview: The position of International Consultant for Health Impact Assessment of Sand and Dust Storms (SDS) in West Asia involves conducting a comprehensive assessment of the health impacts associated with SDS in the region. This role is crucial as it contributes to the development of the Regional Masterplan to Combat Sand and Dust Storms, which aims to address the multifaceted challenges posed by SDS. The consultant will be responsible for establishing the analytical foundation necessary to determine the health impacts of SDS and propose adaptive measures. This assessment will be guided by established methodologies, including the UNCCD Toolbox and guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO). The consultant will work closely with the Project Manager at UNEP’s Regional Office for West Asia and the National Center for Meteorology (NCM) in Saudi Arabia, ensuring that the findings are relevant and actionable for policy and public health planning.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake a variety of duties and responsibilities, including conducting a literature review of existing studies on the health impacts of SDS, proposing a structured methodology for the health impact assessment, preparing an inception report, developing a health impact assessment model, drafting the health impact assessment report, and presenting findings at regional or national consultations. Specific tasks include reviewing epidemiological and toxicological studies, identifying health outcomes associated with SDS, developing a health impact typology, and creating an inventory of health impacts.
