This project is a collaborative effort between UNECA and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), aimed at assisting six Southern African countries—Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe—in developing and implementing innovative green economy policies. The focus of the project is on promoting renewable energy adoption, circular economy practices, and technology-driven transformation, particularly emphasizing the role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and women- and youth-led enterprises. The Junior Consultant will play a crucial role in ensuring that the regional studies conducted under this project are evidence-based and relevant to policymakers and stakeholders, including the private sector and civil society organizations. The position requires a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for both remote and in-person contributions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Junior Consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks under the guidance of UNECA and the Senior Consultant. Key duties include:

• Conducting desk research to compile relevant literature, datasets, and national policy documents that inform the regional studies.
• Drafting short analytical summaries that capture country experiences and policy frameworks related to green industrialization and MSMEs.
• Supporting the dissemination of survey instruments or questionnaires aimed at gathering data on the circular economy and MSMEs, collaborating with ministries and private sector agencies as necessary.
• Preparing notes that detail financing mechanisms, innovation systems, and the integration of MSMEs into green value chains.
• Contributing written inputs to designated sections of the draft regional study, ensuring alignment with the objectives set by the Senior Regional Consultant and UNECA.
• Developing supporting materials such as tables, charts, annexes, and PowerPoint presentations for workshops and briefings, facilitating effective communication of findings and recommendations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an Advanced University Degree in Economics, Development Studies, Environmental Policy, or a related field. Alternatively, a first degree combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be acceptable in lieu of the advanced degree. The position requires at least three years of experience in economic policy analysis, value chain analysis, or development economics, demonstrating a solid understanding of the economic landscape in Southern Africa and the challenges faced by MSMEs in the context of green industrialization.

Educational Background:
