Job Overview: The internship program at the IAEA is designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical work experience that aligns with their academic studies and interests. Interns will have the opportunity to engage with the IAEA's operations and gain insights into the workings of the United Nations system. The internship typically lasts between three months and one year, allowing interns to immerse themselves in the IAEA's activities and contribute to its mission. Interns will work under the supervision of the Head of the Liaison Office in Geneva, where they will support outreach activities and assist in various tasks related to the IAEA's participation in meetings and events in Geneva.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for attending and taking notes during meetings of the UN system in Geneva, assisting with the preparation of reports on these meetings as requested. They will help prepare for the Agency's participation in United Nations-related and other meetings, and interact with delegations from Permanent Missions to the United Nations in Geneva, as well as representatives from other intergovernmental organizations. Interns will assist in organizing high-level visits and meetings at the IAEA Liaison Office, support visitors from IAEA headquarters, and help organize events to enhance the visibility of the IAEA in Geneva. They will also conduct research on developments and trends at other international organizations and prepare related reports, while taking on additional tasks to support the general work of the Office as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in international relations, international security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, or a relevant discipline. A general knowledge of the United Nations system, non-proliferation, energy, climate change, or health is considered an asset. Excellent written communication skills are essential, and fluency in French is highly desirable. Candidates should also have good written and spoken English skills, with fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, or Russian) being an asset. Additionally, candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
Educational Background: Candidates must be at least 20 years of age and have completed a minimum of three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree. They may apply up to one year after completing a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree. Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship program.
Experience: The internship is aimed at individuals who are currently studying or have recently graduated, thus requiring no prior professional experience. However, familiarity with the United Nations system and relevant fields such as international relations or security is beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is essential, while fluency in French is highly desirable. Knowledge of any other IAEA official languages (Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, or Russian) is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's profile for the internship.
