Job Overview: The Section Chief in the Facilities and Administrative Services Branch (FASB) plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing facilities and asset management services for UNFPA globally. This position involves formulating and implementing strategies to optimize office premises, coordinating relocations and renovations, and developing policies and procedures that align with the organization's goals. The incumbent will provide leadership and supervision to a team, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders, including field offices and other UN agencies. The role requires a strategic mindset to address the complex needs of facilities management while adhering to UNFPA's mission and values.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Section Chief will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: 1) Providing strategic guidance and leadership in facilities management, developing comprehensive policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with UNFPA standards. 2) Monitoring and reviewing facilities needs for both Headquarters and Field Offices, providing cost-effective solutions, and managing requests for relocations or renovations. 3) Overseeing the management of building facilities and equipment, negotiating lease terms, and providing technical expertise for UNFPA premises globally. 4) Representing UNFPA in inter-agency working groups, ensuring the organization's interests are considered in discussions related to common premises. 5) Coordinating financial data related to fixed assets and leases, ensuring accuracy and timely submission to the Finance Branch. 6) Managing the lease database and ensuring data accuracy, while also identifying and addressing any needs for policy modifications. 7) Performing other duties as required to support the success of the work team and UNFPA's mandate.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an Advanced University Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Business Administration, or a relevant discipline. They should have a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in real estate and facilities management operations, particularly in a multicultural environment. Knowledge of engineering, architecture, and facilities management practices is essential, along with experience in leading high-performing teams and familiarity with ERP systems and general IT knowledge.
Educational Background: An Advanced University Degree in a relevant field such as Architecture, Engineering, or Business Administration is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of facilities management and asset optimization within a global organization like UNFPA.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in real estate and facilities management operations. This experience should include working in a multicultural environment and leading teams effectively. Familiarity with basic engineering principles, architecture, and facilities management practices is crucial, as well as experience with ERP systems and data management.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse international setting.
