IOM has been operational in Indonesia for over 40 years and is one of the largest IOM missions globally. The organization works on a wide range of activities in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, civil society, private sector actors, migrants, and communities. IOM Indonesia is involved in several thematic areas, including Counter-Trafficking, Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion, Disasters, Climate and Resilience, Immigration and Border Governance, Refugee Care, Migration Health, Migration Policy and Data Hub, and Resettlement and Voluntary Returns. The mission of IOM Indonesia is to ensure quality care for refugees and asylum seekers referred to them by the Government of Indonesia, adhering to international humanitarian and human rights standards. IOM also aims to enhance the protection of vulnerable subgroups, such as unaccompanied migrant children, victims of sexual and gender-based violence, pregnant women, and the elderly, through the establishment of referral mechanisms involving specialized state and non-state service providers.

Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is based in Surabaya, Indonesia, under the direct supervision of the Programme Associate (Refugee Care) and overall supervision of the Head of Field Office. The intern will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day implementation of health promotion and other program activities in Surabaya. The role includes participating in the implementation of the Refugee Care Unit and Health Care Unit programs, particularly in organizing events and supporting health program activities. The intern will also co-facilitate general/non-clinical counseling sessions, maintain documentation and record-keeping for training sessions and meetings, and assist in the collection and maintenance of data related to mental health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support. The intern will work closely with the Health Care Unit and Refugee Care teams to enhance health information accuracy and program outcomes, and undertake any other related duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a variety of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the implementation of the Refugee Care Unit and Health Care Unit programs in Surabaya.
  • Organizing events and assisting in health program activities.
  • Co-facilitating general/non-clinical counseling sessions under the supervision of the Health Care Unit.
  • Maintaining documentation and record-keeping for training sessions, meetings, and other initiatives.
  • Assisting in the collection and maintenance of data related to mental health and psychosocial support.
  • Providing assistance in protection-related activities, including awareness sessions.
  • Managing the distribution and response to Freshdesk tickets within the Complaints and Feedback Mechanism.
  • Supporting the AVRR and associated movement procedures.
  • Collaborating with the Health Care Unit and Refugee Care teams to support data collection during field visits and community meetings. 1
  • Undertaking any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum undergraduate level) in fields such as Public Health, Medical Health, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Work, Education, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in a second university degree (graduate level) or have graduated within one year of graduation.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this internship position include being enrolled in the final year of an undergraduate program or being enrolled in a graduate program in relevant fields such as Public Health, Medical Health, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Work, or Education. Candidates who have graduated within the last year are also eligible to apply.

Experience:
Relevant professional or volunteer experience with civil society organizations or volunteer groups is considered an advantage for this position. This experience can help candidates understand the context of the work and the challenges faced by the populations served by IOM.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia is required for this position, both oral and written. This proficiency is essential for effective communication and documentation in the role.

Additional Notes:
The internship is subject to funding confirmation and will require certification of medical fitness for appointment, verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned government where applicable. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those receiving an internship allowance or scholarship that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan for the duration of the assignment, but does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance and must provide proof of coverage before starting work. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, and discrimination.
