Job Overview: The Video-Maker Consultant position at UNHCR in Rome is designed for professionals who can produce high-quality media content that highlights the experiences of asylum seekers, refugees, and stateless individuals. The consultant will be responsible for creating compelling video stories that align with UNHCR's mission and guidelines. This role requires a strong artistic vision, technical expertise, and the ability to work under tight deadlines. The consultant will be part of a roster and will collaborate closely with the Communications Unit to ensure that the produced content meets the organization's standards and effectively communicates the intended messages to various audiences.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties of the Video-Maker Consultant include:
Producing edited videos for media placement and UNHCR's website and social media platforms, focusing on human interest and news stories relevant to local and global audiences.
Delivering video content in three distinct versions: a final version with subtitles and anagraphic layout for Italian channels, a version without subtitles or text, and a version without subtitles, text, or music, ensuring compliance with UNHCR's photo guidelines.
Providing detailed metadata for all footage in accordance with UNHCR's requirements.
Maintaining high professional standards and ensuring that all content produced is ethically sound and sensitive to the contexts of the subjects involved.
Upholding the confidentiality of information related to asylum seekers and refugees, as mandated by UNHCR's Code of Conduct.
Collaborating with the Communications Unit to align video content with UNHCR's advocacy and awareness-raising strategies.
Required Qualifications: Essential qualifications for this position include:
A strong portfolio showcasing previous work in video production, particularly in contexts related to refugees and migration.
Demonstrated technical skills and artistic vision in video-making, with a focus on storytelling in humanitarian settings.
Evidence of prior experience in producing content for international organizations, NGOs, or media outlets, particularly in sensitive contexts. Desirable qualifications include:
More than 4 years of progressively responsible experience in video production, with a proven track record of excellence recognized through awards or professional accolades.
Experience working with UN agencies, international NGOs, or government entities, demonstrating the ability to deliver high-quality results in complex environments.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess a relevant educational background in film production, media studies, communications, or a related field. A degree or certification in these areas is preferred, as it provides a foundational understanding of the technical and theoretical aspects of video production and storytelling.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in video production, particularly in contexts related to humanitarian work, refugees, or migration. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality video content under tight deadlines and in challenging environments.
Languages: Fluency in Italian and English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset, particularly those relevant to the populations served by UNHCR.

The daily fee for this consultancy is set at 300 Euros, with additional travel costs covered when missions are required. Inclusion in the roster does not guarantee a contract, as UNHCR retains discretion over contract decisions based on operational needs.
