Job Overview:
The position of Driver is integral to the successful execution of the SENSREC-DW project, which focuses on enhancing labor conditions and environmental safety in ship recycling. The incumbent will be responsible for providing safe and reliable driving services to project staff and other ILO personnel. This role requires not only driving but also administrative and logistical support, ensuring that all transportation needs are met efficiently. The project aims to implement the Hong Kong Convention's standards, advocating for decent working conditions and sustainable practices in ship recycling. The Driver will play a crucial role in facilitating the movement of project staff and ensuring that all logistical aspects of the project are handled smoothly, contributing to the overall success of the initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide safe and reliable driving services for the Office Director, senior officials, and authorized personnel.
  • Assist officials and visitors at the airport, including handling protocol, visa, and customs formalities.
  • Deliver and collect mail, documents, and other items as required.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle logs and prepare vehicle maintenance plans to ensure cost savings.
  • Conduct day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including minor repairs and arrangements for major repairs.
  • Ensure all required documents and supplies are available in the vehicle, including insurance, registration, and first aid kits.
  • Schedule drivers and vehicles for daily use when appropriate.
  • Inform the supervisor about vehicle registrations and insurance procedures in a timely manner.
  • Assist office staff with filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores. 1
  • Handle mailing, collection, and distribution of documents and publications. 1
  • Perform data entry duties and assist in paying office bills. 1
  • Undertake other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and have a strong knowledge of local driving rules and regulations. Skills in minor vehicle repair are essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate excellent driving skills and a commitment to safety. Familiarity with the local area, particularly Karachi and surrounding regions, is highly desirable. Candidates should also exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to manage vehicle maintenance effectively.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is primary education. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and a good understanding of driving rules and regulations. Additional training or certifications related to vehicle maintenance or safety would be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of work experience as a driver, with a proven safe driving record. Familiarity with the city of Karachi and its suburbs, as well as knowledge of Gadani and Lasbela in Balochistan, is highly desirable. Experience in a similar role within an international organization or NGO would be beneficial.

Languages:
A good command of the local language is mandatory, along with basic English communication skills to interact with international staff. Proficiency in additional languages would be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This position is a fixed-term contract for 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on funding availability and performance.
