IOM has been operational in Indonesia for over 40 years, engaging in a wide range of activities in partnership with the Government of Indonesia, civil society, private sector actors, migrants, and communities. The organization focuses on several thematic areas, including Counter-Trafficking, Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion, Disasters, Climate and Resilience, Immigration and Border Governance, Refugee Care, Migration Health, Migration Governance, and Resettlement and Voluntary Returns. IOM Indonesia aims to enhance the quality of care for refugees and asylum seekers referred to it by the Government of Indonesia, adhering to applicable international humanitarian and human rights standards. Additionally, IOM contributes to the increased protection of vulnerable subgroups of displaced persons, such as unaccompanied migrant children, victims of sexual and gender-based violence, pregnant women, and the elderly, through the establishment of referral mechanisms involving specialized state and non-state service providers.

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Associate (Refugee Care) in Tangerang and will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day implementation of Refugee Care activities. The role includes participating in the implementation of the Refugee Care unit programme, particularly in organizing events and providing support for various programme activities. Interns will have the opportunity to co-facilitate general and non-clinical counselling sessions, maintain documentation for training sessions, and assist in the collection and maintenance of data related to mental health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support. The internship also involves assisting in protection-related activities, supporting the distribution and response management of Freshdesk tickets, and collaborating with the education team to enhance student learning outcomes. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the intern include:
Participating in the implementation of the Refugee Care unit programme, particularly in organizing events.
Supporting the day-to-day implementation of programme activities in coordination with the Refugee Care Unit in Tangerang.
Co-facilitating general/non-clinical counselling sessions under the direction and supervision of the Refugee Care Unit.
Maintaining documentation and record-keeping for training sessions, meetings, and other Refugee Care Unit initiatives.
Assisting the Refugee Care Unit in the collection and maintenance of data related to mental health and psychosocial support.
Providing assistance in protection-related activities, including awareness sessions and protection cadre meetings.
Supporting the distribution and response management of Freshdesk tickets within the Complaints and Feedback Mechanism (CFM).
Assisting with the AVRR and associated movement procedures.
Working closely with the education team to support school visits, coordinate with Principals, and participate in parent meetings aimed at enhancing student learning outcomes. 1
Undertaking any other related duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications: The position requires candidates to be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum undergraduate level) in fields such as Public Health, Medical Health, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Work, Education, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in a second university degree (graduate school/equivalent) or have graduated with a university degree within one year of graduation. Relevant professional or volunteer experience with civil society organizations or volunteer groups is considered an advantage.
Educational Background: Candidates must be enrolled in the final year of a first university degree programme or in a second university degree programme, or have graduated within the last year. The educational background should be in relevant fields such as Public Health, Medical Health, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Work, Education, or related disciplines from an accredited institution.
Experience: Relevant professional or volunteer experience with civil society organizations or volunteer groups is advantageous for this position. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to new experiences, which is essential for success in this internship role.
Languages: Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia is required for this position, both oral and written. This bilingual requirement is crucial for effective communication within the team and with the beneficiaries of the Refugee Care Unit.
Additional Notes: The internship is subject to funding confirmation and the candidate's medical fitness for appointment. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those receiving financial remuneration or credits from their university or other sponsoring bodies will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan for the duration of the assignment, but does not offer evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance and must provide proof of coverage before starting work. IOM maintains a zero-tolerance policy on conduct incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including discrimination and harassment.
