IOM has been operational in Indonesia for over 40 years, engaging in a wide range of activities in partnership with the Government of Indonesia, civil society, private sector actors, migrants, and communities. The organization focuses on several thematic areas, including Counter-Trafficking, Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion, Disasters, Climate and Resilience, Immigration and Border Governance, Refugee Care, Migration Health, Migration Governance, and Resettlement and Voluntary Returns. IOM Indonesia aims to enhance the quality of care for refugees and asylum seekers referred to it by the Government of Indonesia, adhering to international humanitarian and human rights standards. Additionally, IOM contributes to the protection of vulnerable subgroups of displaced persons, such as unaccompanied migrant children, victims of sexual and gender-based violence, pregnant women, and the elderly, by establishing referral mechanisms that involve specialized state and non-state service providers.
Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is based in Makassar, Indonesia, within the Refugee Care Unit of IOM. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Associate (Refugee Care) and will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day implementation of Refugee Care activities. The intern will gain valuable experience by participating in the implementation of the Refugee Care unit programme, particularly in organizing events and providing support for various programme activities. The role includes co-facilitating general and non-clinical counselling sessions, maintaining documentation and record-keeping for training sessions and meetings, and assisting in the collection and maintenance of data related to mental health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support. The intern will also support non-specialized protection-related activities, assist in the distribution and response management of Freshdesk tickets within the Complaints and Feedback Mechanism, and work closely with the education team to enhance student learning outcomes through school visits and parent meetings. Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Participating in the implementation of the Refugee Care unit programme, particularly in organizing events.
Supporting the day-to-day implementation of programme activities in coordination with the Refugee Care Unit in Makassar.
Co-facilitating general/non-clinical counselling sessions under the direction and supervision of the Refugee Care Unit.
Participating in the comprehensive case management process, guided and supervised by the Refugee Care Team.
Maintaining documentation and record-keeping for training sessions, meetings, and other Refugee Care Unit initiatives.
Supporting the Refugee Care Unit in the collection and maintenance of data related to mental health and psychosocial support.
Assisting in non-specialized protection-related activities, including awareness sessions and protection cadre meetings.
Providing assistance in the distribution and response management of Freshdesk tickets within the Complaints and Feedback Mechanism.
Supporting the AVRR and associated movement procedures. 1
Working closely with the education team to support school visits, coordinate with Principals, and participate in parent meetings aimed at enhancing student learning outcomes. 1
Undertaking any other related duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum undergraduate level) in Public Health, Medical Health, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Work, Education, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in a second university degree (graduate level/equivalent) or have graduated with a university degree within one year of graduation. Relevant professional or volunteer experience with civil society organizations or volunteer groups is considered an advantage. Candidates should possess excellent computer skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email exchange, and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access), as well as SPSS. They should be flexible and open to learning new experiences, have good interpersonal, networking, and communication skills, and be able to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to write clear and concise reports.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in the final year of a first university degree programme (minimum undergraduate level) in relevant fields such as Public Health, Medical Health, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Work, Education, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. IOM covers interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan, free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. However, IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents and illnesses, and interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for such cases. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, abuse of authority, and discrimination based on gender, nationality, age, race, sexual orientation, religious or ethnic background, or disabilities.
