Job Overview: The Online Volunteer position is designed to support the UNV Nepal Communications team by focusing on the editing and refinement of articles and volunteer stories that promote various UN International Days. The role involves conducting thorough background research to enhance the content and accuracy of articles, ensuring that the information presented is not only engaging but also aligns with the communication style and messaging guidelines set forth by the UNV communications team. The Online Volunteer will be tasked with refining and editing draft articles to improve their clarity and structure, making them more compelling for the intended audience. This position is crucial in ensuring that the narratives shared by UN Volunteers resonate with the public and effectively communicate the values and objectives of the UNV programme.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct background research to strengthen the content and accuracy of up to three articles.
Refine and edit draft articles to enhance clarity, structure, and engagement.
Ensure that all information aligns with UNV’s communication style and messaging guidelines.
Fact-check references, quotes, and statistics as necessary for each article.
Collaborate with the UNV communications team to ensure that the final articles meet the required standards and effectively promote UN International Days.
Provide feedback and suggestions for improving the overall quality of the articles and stories.
Maintain open communication with team members to discuss progress and any challenges encountered during the editing process.
Required Qualifications:
Strong writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail.
Ability to conduct thorough research and fact-check information effectively.
Familiarity with UNV’s communication style and messaging guidelines is preferred.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
A commitment to the values and mission of the United Nations and volunteerism.
Educational Background: A background in communications, journalism, international relations, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of the principles of effective communication and storytelling, particularly in the context of international development and volunteerism.
Experience: Previous experience in writing, editing, or communications, particularly within a non-profit or international organization, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system and its operations will be considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of producing high-quality written content and engaging narratives.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all articles will be written in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the local context in Nepal, would be considered an advantage but is not required.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position, and the duration of the contract may vary based on the needs of the UNV Nepal Communications team. The role is expected to be part-time, allowing for flexibility in working hours.
