Job Overview:
The position involves designing and implementing six pilot initiatives aimed at enhancing the productive and commercial articulation of anchoveta products with added value for direct human consumption. These initiatives will be implemented in the regions of Apurímac, Ayacucho, and Ica, with a strong emphasis on promoting women's participation in the process. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of the local fishing industry, market dynamics, and the socio-economic context of the targeted regions. The contractor will be responsible for developing strategies that not only improve the supply chain of anchoveta but also ensure that the initiatives are sustainable and beneficial to the local communities. The contractor will work closely with local stakeholders, including fishermen, women’s groups, and local authorities, to ensure the successful implementation of the initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The contractor will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Conducting a thorough assessment of the current anchoveta supply chain and identifying opportunities for value addition.
  • Designing six pilot initiatives that focus on enhancing the productive and commercial aspects of anchoveta products.
  • Collaborating with local stakeholders, including women’s groups, to ensure their active participation in the initiatives.
  • Developing training programs for local fishermen and women on best practices for anchoveta processing and marketing.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the progress of the initiatives, providing regular reports to UNDP.
  • Ensuring that all initiatives are aligned with UNDP’s goals and objectives for sustainable development.
  • Facilitating workshops and meetings to gather feedback and improve the initiatives based on stakeholder input.
  • Documenting lessons learned and best practices for future reference and potential scaling of successful initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
  • Proven experience in project management, particularly in the field of fisheries or agricultural development.
  • Strong understanding of value chain analysis and market development strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of gender issues and experience in promoting women’s participation in economic activities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong organizational skills.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as fisheries management, agricultural economics, business administration, or a related discipline is required. A master’s degree in a relevant field would be an advantage.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in project management, particularly in the fisheries sector or related fields. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the initiatives will be implemented in Spanish-speaking regions. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and partners.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as an individual contractor role with a contract duration of 180 calendar days. The contractor will be expected to work in the specified regions of Apurímac, Ayacucho, and Ica. The role is full-time, and the contractor will be required to submit regular progress reports to UNDP. Compensation will be based on the contractor's qualifications and experience, and additional benefits may be provided as per UNDP policies.
