Job Overview:
The Assistant Education Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Refugee Education 2030 strategy, which aligns with the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR). This position involves providing technical support and direction regarding education programs, ensuring that they are adapted to the specific context of the country. The incumbent will work closely with Country Offices to maintain the overall education policy direction of UNHCR and will be responsible for advocating on all issues related to education. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government ministries, NGOs, and international organizations, to promote inclusive and equitable access to education for refugees and host communities. The Assistant Education Officer will also be involved in monitoring and assessing the impact of education programs and ensuring that they align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4, which focuses on quality education.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Education Officer will be responsible for translating global education objectives into regional or national strategies, engaging with national education stakeholders, and providing technical advice on UNHCR education programs. Specific duties include supporting senior management in advocacy activities, participating in national humanitarian and development sector working groups, and assisting in the planning and coordination of UNHCR's education role. The incumbent will also train UNHCR staff and partners, develop relevant tools, and ensure the active exchange of information and best practices. Additionally, the Assistant Education Officer will join assessment missions in emergencies, prepare education inputs for key documents, and manage risks related to education objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong interpersonal skills, excellent analytical and drafting abilities, and strong communication and presentation skills. They should demonstrate the capacity to work independently and have experience in educational research, teaching, or education administration. Desirable qualifications include field experience in education program implementation, experience working with government ministries, and knowledge of UNHCR policies and standards. Familiarity with child protection issues is also beneficial.

Educational Background:
A minimum of an undergraduate degree in Education, Social Sciences, or a related field is required. Candidates with a graduate or doctorate degree may be considered without prior experience. Relevant educational qualifications marked with an asterisk are essential for this position.

Experience:
The position requires at least one year of relevant experience for candidates with an undergraduate degree. Those with a graduate degree or doctorate may apply without prior experience. Languages:
Knowledge of English is mandatory, along with the UN working language of the duty station if it is not English. For national professional jobs, knowledge of the local language is also required. French is considered a desirable language for this position.
