Job Overview:
The Maintenance and Repair Technician position at WFP involves providing essential maintenance and repair services for equipment and machinery across various processing facilities. This role is crucial for ensuring that all equipment operates efficiently and safely, thereby supporting WFP's mission of delivering food assistance effectively. The technician will be responsible for routine and ad hoc maintenance, installation of new machinery, and training staff on equipment use. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying mechanical issues and implementing solutions to minimize downtime and enhance operational efficiency. The technician will report to the Sub-Office Management Services Associate and will work closely with the Country Office Nutrition and Management Services Unit to ensure compliance with safety standards and technical guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance and Repair Technician include:
  • Supporting procurement, installation, and training on the use of equipment for new and existing Nyam Nyam Pap processing facilities.
  • Conducting routine and ad hoc maintenance and repair of processing facilities’ equipment, adhering to manufacturer’s standards and WFP safety procedures.
  • Performing regular checks on equipment to assess mechanical conditions and fitness, using diagnostic techniques to make cost-efficient recommendations.
  • Preparing and submitting schedules for preventive and comprehensive maintenance of equipment and machinery.
  • Recovering and repairing broken-down equipment using appropriate techniques to minimize risks of additional damage and accidents.
  • Reporting accurately and timely on mechanical works carried out, including any workmanship failures, to facilitate informed planning and decision-making.
  • Maintaining inventory lists of all repair tools and equipment to ensure a safe and clean working environment.
  • Providing support for maintenance and repair of WFP vehicles and other equipment as required.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Maintenance and Repair Technician position include:
  • Completion of secondary school education, supplemented by vocational training in machine service technology or relevant mechanical/technical training.
  • A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of various types of equipment, including factory machinery and solar equipment.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to handle heavy items safely.
  • Knowledge of technical manuals and the ability to follow instructions and technical guidance for maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Proficiency in identifying mechanical and electronic faults and providing efficient repair services.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and the capacity to meet job requirements effectively.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and precise records of maintenance activities.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes the completion of secondary school education, along with vocational training in machine service technology or a related field. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the technical aspects of machinery and equipment maintenance.

Experience:
Candidates should possess a minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of various types of equipment, including factory machinery and solar systems. This experience is crucial for ensuring that the technician can effectively troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues that may arise in the processing facilities.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication within the team and for understanding technical documentation. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
