Established in 1951, IOM has a mission to promote humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. The organization operates in over 150 countries, with a diverse workforce of more than 10,000 employees. IOM is committed to ensuring a workplace where all employees can thrive professionally, while working towards harnessing the full potential of migration. The organization emphasizes a culture of inclusion, respect for diversity, integrity, and professionalism, which are core to its operations and values.

Job Overview:
The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM is designed to attract talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in migration-related areas. The programme is particularly aimed at individuals who are either enrolled in their final academic year of a first university degree or have graduated within the last 12 months. Interns are expected to be between the ages of 20 and 36 and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in a United Nations agency, specifically within the context of IOM's activities in Australia and the Pacific. Interns will work under the supervision of the National Project Officer and the Project Assistant, contributing to various aspects of the labour mobility project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for providing general administrative and clerical support for labour mobility project activities. This includes retrieving, compiling, summarizing, and presenting information and data related to labour mobility programming. Interns will also contribute to drafting reports, presentations, and visual materials, as well as supporting the finalization and design of training modules. Coordination with internal teams and external partners for project implementation is a key responsibility, along with assisting in organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions, including handling logistics and documentation. Additionally, interns may be assigned other duties as needed to support the project.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed a university degree from an accredited academic institution within the last year or be in their final year of study, preferably in fields related to Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or other related disciplines. Interns should demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential. Interns should also possess a willingness to learn and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a completed university degree or being in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program or equivalent in a relevant field. This could include studies in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related areas. The internship is particularly suited for those who have a strong academic foundation in these subjects and are looking to apply their knowledge in a practical setting.

Experience:
The position is aimed at individuals with less than two years of relevant working experience. This is particularly suitable for recent graduates or students who are in their final year of study. The internship is designed to provide practical experience in a professional environment, allowing interns to gain insights into the workings of a UN agency and the specific projects undertaken by IOM.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication within the organization and with external partners. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in the context of IOM's diverse international operations.

Additional Notes:
The internship is required to be conducted physically at the IOM office in Canberra. Interns are expected to work five days a week for a duration of three months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs. Any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation. The appointment will also be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and necessary authorizations by the relevant government authorities. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those receiving financial remuneration or credits from their university or other sponsoring bodies will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under its Compensation Plan, but interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. IOM maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct that contradicts the organization's aims and objectives, including discrimination and harassment. The organization does not charge any fees during the recruitment process and only accepts applications submitted through its online recruitment system.
