Job Overview: The position of Driver at UNHCR involves not only driving official vehicles but also ensuring the maintenance and upkeep of these vehicles according to the technical guidance and specifications set by the organization. The Driver will be supervised by the Administrative Officer or another designated staff member and is expected to follow strict security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security instructions and guidance. This role is crucial for the smooth operation of the UNHCR office, as the Driver will facilitate the transport of authorized personnel, deliver important documents, and ensure that all vehicles are roadworthy and compliant with safety standards. The Driver will also engage with various stakeholders, including government authorities and partners, to ensure effective communication and coordination in their duties.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: driving UNHCR vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers, delivering and collecting documents and items, meeting official personnel at airports and facilitating immigration and customs formalities, performing daily maintenance checks on assigned vehicles (including oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires), ensuring vehicles are clean and well-maintained, performing minor repairs, logging official trips and vehicle usage, ensuring compliance with safety regulations in case of accidents, and following all instructions and security guidance provided by supervisors. Additionally, the Driver will support risk management efforts and contribute to the identification and management of risks in their area of responsibility.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid driving license and have a good understanding of driving rules and regulations. Essential qualifications include basic vehicle mechanical skills and the ability to perform minor repairs. The role requires a commitment to safety and adherence to UNHCR policies and procedures. Candidates should demonstrate accountability and professionalism in their work, contributing to a respectful and inclusive workplace.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of Primary Education or a High School Diploma. Candidates with higher educational qualifications may also be considered favorably, although not mandatory for this role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a driving role, preferably within an international organization or similar environment. Experience working with the United Nations or familiarity with UN administrative procedures is highly desirable, as it indicates an understanding of the operational context and expectations of the role.
Languages: Knowledge of English is mandatory, and familiarity with the UN working language of the duty station (if not English) is also required. For General Service jobs, proficiency in English and/or the UN working language is necessary, and knowledge of the local language is considered an asset.
