Job Overview: The Project Associate position is crucial for the implementation of a project aimed at increasing access to primary and secondary health services in Yemen. This role involves restoring the physical infrastructure of health facilities, including general hospitals and local health centers, through rehabilitation, maintenance works, and minor repairs. The Project Associate will ensure that the design and rehabilitation works meet the highest standards of safety, sustainability, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and accessibility. Additionally, the role includes providing priority medical equipment and supplies to the targeted facilities and conducting training sessions for staff on the use of this equipment. The Project Associate will work under the guidance of the Director of the Amman Operational Hub and the direct supervision of the Project Manager, conducting regular missions to monitor project execution and stakeholder interactions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Associate will be responsible for a variety of functions, including preparing terms of reference for contractors and consultants, assisting with the translation of project documents between Arabic and English, and supporting logistical preparations for training events, seminars, and workshops. The role also involves processing administrative, financial, and procurement tasks in collaboration with the UNOPS operations section, monitoring service provision by contractors, and checking financial and technical reports before submission to the relevant sections. The Project Associate will draft regular project progress reports for UNOPS management and donors, participate in project meetings, and support planning, reporting, project design, and resource mobilization efforts. The position requires close collaboration with other UNOPS projects and participation in management and planning exercises as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Project/Programme Management, Humanitarian Assistance, Engineering, Development Studies, or a relevant field. Professional certifications such as IPMA Level B, PMP, or Prince2 Foundation are also required. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in project implementation, preferably within an international NGO, UN agency, or other international technical cooperation agency. Experience in construction and procurement-related projects is desired, along with skills in project design, implementation, and monitoring. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines are essential. Proficiency in MS Office and the ability to interact with various stakeholders, including NGOs and UN agencies, are also important.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Project/Programme Management, Humanitarian Assistance, Engineering, or Development Studies is required for this position. Additionally, candidates should hold professional certifications in project management, such as IPMA Level B, PMP, or Prince2 Foundation, which demonstrate their expertise and commitment to the field.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of directly relevant experience in project implementation. Candidates should have experience working in an international NGO, UN agency, or other international technical cooperation agency. Experience in supporting construction and procurement-related projects is preferred, as well as experience in project design, implementation, and monitoring. The ability to manage and organize events effectively is also crucial, along with a proven capacity to interact with various stakeholders, including non-governmental partners and international donors.
Languages: Proficiency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, as the role involves translating project documents and interacting with stakeholders in both languages. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
