Job Overview: The Field Monitoring Assistant position is crucial for the effective implementation and monitoring of the school feeding program and resilience initiatives within the specified coverage area. The role involves working closely with the M&E team leader and the Head of Program to ensure that program objectives align with WFP policies. The job holder will operate with a high degree of independence, conducting various program and analytical tasks that may involve considerable complexity. The primary purpose of this role is to generate quality evidence on program outcomes and provide comprehensive reports that support the effective delivery of assistance packages. The Field Monitoring Assistant will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring the implementation of school feeding initiatives at the sub-office and field levels, ensuring that all activities are documented and aligned with WFP's strategic goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Monitoring Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: coordinating and monitoring the implementation of the school feeding program at the sub-office and field levels in collaboration with government counterparts; assisting in the development of allocation plans and preparing monthly field mission reports to document program implementation; participating in sub-office led partner capacity assessments; coordinating regular meetings with local authorities regarding commodity pipelines and distribution arrangements; consolidating activity monitoring issues and ensuring flagged issues are addressed; liaising with government counterparts to gather feedback for program reviews; participating in missions, assessments, and training sessions; providing guidance to schools on WFP operational practices and monitoring tools; reporting relevant events regarding food management to the Sub Office Head of Programme; and performing any additional duties as required by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a secondary school certificate, with a post-secondary certificate in social sciences, Development Studies, Agriculture, Nutrition, or a related field being preferred. The role requires a solid understanding of WFP’s policies and strategies, as well as the ability to apply knowledge of performance management systems to effectively manage resources and relationships. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in qualitative and quantitative methodologies, data analytics, and visualization, as well as program monitoring and review processes. Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are essential for this position, particularly in English and Afargna.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is a secondary school certificate. However, candidates with a post-secondary certificate in relevant fields such as social sciences, Development Studies, Agriculture, Nutrition, or related disciplines will be preferred. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of program implementation and monitoring within the humanitarian context.
Experience: Candidates should have at least four (4) years of relevant professional experience in monitoring, evaluation, or program implementation, preferably within humanitarian or development contexts. This experience is crucial for understanding the operational challenges and requirements of the school feeding program and for effectively contributing to its success.
Languages: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Afargna is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders and beneficiaries.
Additional Notes: The position is a Service Contract with a duration of twelve (12) months, and there are two (2) positions available. The role is based in Semera, Ethiopia, and is expected to operate within a full-time capacity.
