Job Overview:
The position of Cook for the Accommodation Center involves supporting the planning and preparation of meals for unaccompanied migrant children (UMC) residing in IOM's shelters. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking meals, ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen, and maintaining records of supplies. This role is crucial in providing nutritional support to vulnerable populations and requires collaboration with the Shelter Coordinator and a nutritionist. The Cook will also be tasked with training beneficiaries in meal preparation, thereby promoting self-sufficiency and life skills among the children. Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a certificate of relevant professional experience or certification in culinary arts or food preparation. A valid health certificate and successful completion of examinations for food handlers are mandatory. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong work ethics, commitment to humanitarian principles, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Experience working with children or vulnerable populations is preferred, as is familiarity with multicultural settings.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a certification in culinary arts or a related field from an accredited institution. Candidates must have completed training that is recognized and listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Continuous professional development in food safety and nutrition is also advantageous.
Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in a similar role, particularly in food preparation and cooking for groups. A willingness to work flexible hours, including mornings, holidays, and weekends, is essential. Experience working with children or vulnerable populations is highly desirable, as this role involves direct interaction with unaccompanied minors. Previous experience in a multicultural environment will be beneficial for adapting to the diverse needs of the beneficiaries.
Languages:
Fluency in Greek, both oral and written, is required for this position. A working knowledge of English or French is considered an advantage, as IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure effective communication with the children and staff.
Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Greece will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, and compliance with government regulations. - Develop a weekly menu program in collaboration with the Shelter Coordinator and under the guidance of a nutritionist or qualified medical professional.
- Train beneficiaries in meal preparation techniques to enhance their skills and independence.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Shelter Coordinator or Project Coordinator.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations in food handling and preparation.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the overall goals of the Accommodation Center.
