Job Overview:
The position of Cook for the Accommodation Center for Unaccompanied Minors involves supporting the planning and preparation of meals for unaccompanied migrant children. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking meals, ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen, and maintaining records of supplies. The role requires collaboration with the Shelter Coordinator and a nutritionist to develop weekly menus and individual meal programs. Additionally, the Cook will train beneficiaries in meal preparation, ensuring that the dietary needs of the children are met while adhering to health and safety standards. This position is crucial in providing not only sustenance but also a sense of normalcy and care for vulnerable children in the accommodation center.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and cook meals for both groups and individuals in the accommodation center.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen space and all cooking equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of kitchen supplies and report shortages to the Shelter Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with the Shelter Coordinator and a nutritionist to create a weekly menu program tailored to the needs of the children.
  • Train and guide beneficiaries in the preparation of meals, promoting skills development.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Shelter Coordinator or Project Coordinator, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to the needs of the center.

Required Qualifications:
  • A certificate of relevant professional experience or certification in culinary arts or food preparation is mandatory.
  • An updated and valid health certificate, along with successful examinations for food handlers, is required.
  • Strong work ethics and a commitment to humanitarian principles are essential for this role.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment is preferred, particularly with children or vulnerable populations.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a certificate from an accredited institution related to culinary arts or food preparation. Accredited institutions are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Additional training or certifications in food safety and hygiene are advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in a similar cooking role, ideally within a humanitarian or social service context. A willingness to work morning shifts, including weekends and holidays, is necessary. Experience working with children or vulnerable populations is highly preferred, as is familiarity with multicultural environments.

Languages:
Fluency in Greek, both oral and written, is required for this position. A working knowledge of English or French is considered an advantage, as IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Greece will be considered.
