Job Overview:
The Senior Investment Officer (SIO) position within the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) at the IFC is a critical role that involves managing and monitoring financial sector investments. The SIO will be responsible for originating and developing a strong pipeline of investment opportunities, building relationships with clients and stakeholders, and leading investment transactions. The role requires a deep understanding of the local market and industry, particularly in Africa, and the ability to engage with mid and senior-level clients to identify new opportunities. The SIO will also support upstream initiatives to enhance financial sector growth and inclusion, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with various teams to ensure sustainable development impact. This position is essential for driving financial inclusion and economic growth in client countries, aligning with the IFC's mission to create a world free of poverty.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Investment Officer include: developing a strong pipeline of investment opportunities through proactive origination and business development; building and maintaining relationships with clients, investors, and stakeholders; mobilizing other investors alongside IFC; engaging with clients to understand their business challenges; leading investment transactions and portfolio management; negotiating and structuring complex transactions; mentoring junior staff; coordinating with social, environmental, governance, and technical assistance colleagues; monitoring portfolio projects; reviewing financial performance of clients; preparing management reports; and ensuring quality of portfolio reporting information prepared by junior staff. The SIO will also be responsible for identifying critical path milestones and implementing tasks in a timely manner, as well as drafting concise and well-organized documents and reports.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Master's degree in finance or a similar relevant field, with additional accreditation as a CFA or CPA considered a plus. Candidates should have at least 15 years of relevant experience in the financial sector, particularly with a solid understanding of commercial banks and financial entities in Africa. A demonstrated network of contacts in the financial services and investment industries is essential, along with documented experience in identifying, evaluating, structuring, and negotiating private debt and equity investments. Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills, the ability to work under pressure, and effective communication skills are also required.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in finance or a related field. Additional qualifications such as CFA or CPA accreditation are advantageous and may enhance a candidate's profile for this role.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in the financial sector, with a focus on commercial banking and financial entities in Africa. This experience should include a strong operational understanding of the financial landscape and a proven track record in investment management and portfolio oversight.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Proficiency in French is considered a significant advantage and would enhance the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders in the region.
