Job Overview: The Protection and MHPSS Assistant will work under the supervision of the Protection/MHPSS Programme Manager and collaborate closely with the Project Coordinator and other relevant colleagues. The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in the reintegration of Protection and Mental Health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services into durable solutions activities in Yola, Adamawa State. The successful candidate will support the overall implementation of the SIDPIN Project, which focuses on providing essential services to vulnerable populations. This role involves assisting the Programme Manager with project activities, including coordination, reporting, logistics support, and maintaining data collection and analysis mechanisms. The assistant will also prepare periodic and ad-hoc reports on program and project activities, ensuring that all relevant information is documented and shared effectively. Additionally, the role requires technical monitoring of teams in accessible areas, facilitating communication and coordination among various stakeholders, and organizing events related to the project.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Protection and MHPSS Assistant include:
Supporting the implementation of the SIDPIN Project in Adamawa State by assisting the Programme Manager with project activities.
Maintaining data collection and analysis mechanisms, preparing periodic and ad-hoc reports on program and project activities.
Monitoring project activities, including those conducted by psychosocial mobile teams, and reviewing records to identify issues and propose necessary adjustments.
Organizing missions, forums, meetings, workshops, trainings, and other events in coordination with the project manager and key partners.
Facilitating weekly visits to collect and compile reports from psychosocial support teams in Yobe and Maiduguri.
Liaising with governmental, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders on MHPSS-related issues.
Preparing informal translations of technical documents as needed.
Coordinating visibility and communication activities related to the project.
Undertaking duty travel to challenging areas when necessary. 1
Performing other duties as assigned by the Programme Manager.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a university degree in psychology, social sciences, social work, community services, Migration Studies, Development studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution, along with three years of relevant experience. Alternatively, candidates with a high school diploma and five years of related experience will also be considered. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, the ability to establish effective working relationships, and excellent analytical and communication skills. Proactivity, multitasking abilities, and knowledge of social and development issues in Nigeria are essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree in a relevant field such as psychology, social sciences, social work, community services, Migration Studies, or Development studies from an accredited institution. A high school diploma with significant relevant experience may also be acceptable. The educational background should be from institutions recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that the candidate has received quality education in their field of study.
Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in a similar position is required, preferably within the United Nations or the International Humanitarian Field. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in challenging environments and managing projects related to protection and mental health services. Experience in coordinating with various stakeholders and conducting training sessions is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for all applicants. Proficiency in one of the UN languages (French or Spanish) is considered an advantage. The selection process will specifically evaluate language proficiency, which may include written and/or oral assessments. Additionally, candidates must be proficient in at least one local language relevant to the area of operation.
