Job Overview:
The UN Youth Volunteer position offers a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful work that addresses migration and displacement challenges in the Dominican Republic and the wider Caribbean region. The role involves supporting various programs and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of migrants and displaced individuals. The volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission, contributing to research, project support, communications, and administrative tasks. This position is designed to enhance the effectiveness of IOM's programs while providing the volunteer with valuable experience in the field of migration management and humanitarian assistance. The volunteer will be expected to conduct background research, assist in project proposal development, create communication materials, and provide logistical support for events and meetings, all while adhering to IOM's core values and competencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UN Youth Volunteer include:
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct background research on migration, displacement, and climate-related mobility trends in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean; compile a digital resource library; prepare summaries and data visualizations.
  • Project Support: Assist in drafting project proposals and donor reports; support monitoring activities; coordinate with partners and follow up on actions from meetings.
  • Communications and Outreach: Develop youth-friendly communication materials; collect human-interest stories and media; support event organization and logistics.
  • Administrative and Logistical Support: Organize meetings and workshops; assist with administrative tasks such as maintaining records and calendars.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the UN Youth Volunteer position should possess strong research and analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and a commitment to the values of IOM. The ideal candidate should demonstrate adaptability, creativity, and a willingness to learn. Additionally, the candidate should be able to work effectively in a team environment and possess strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, international relations, migration studies, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with relevant coursework or experience in migration, humanitarian assistance, or development will be preferred. Experience:

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable given the location and the target population. The position is based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, which is classified as a Family Station by the ICSC. The hardship classification is A, and the post adjustment multiplier is 27.
