The role involves working within the Site Asset Management group, specifically in the HVAC section, where the engineer will be guided by HVAC experts. The primary responsibilities include conducting technical studies, designing optimized HVAC and Building Management System (BMS) solutions, preparing design plans, technical specifications, and managing project timelines and budgets. The engineer will also supervise on-site teams, ensuring that projects adhere to CERN's quality standards and schedules. This position requires collaboration with subcontractors and suppliers, acting as the main point of contact for stakeholders, conducting functional tests for commissioning, and providing training to users. The role also involves managing project handovers and implementing maintenance documentation, with a strong emphasis on quality and safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct technical studies and design HVAC and BMS solutions tailored to site constraints.
Prepare design plans, technical specifications, and budget and timeline planning.
Supervise and coordinate on-site teams to ensure project completion according to schedule and quality standards.
Collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers, serving as the primary contact between stakeholders.
Conduct functional tests for commissioning and provide training to users.
Manage project handovers, addressing issues and ensuring final acceptance.
Implement maintenance documentation and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
Utilize technical software such as CAD and BIM for project management and documentation.
Adapt to new HVAC and BMS technologies and sustainable practices as they emerge.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and possess a professional background in Mechanical, HVAC, Energy, or a related field. They should have either a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. Additionally, candidates must not have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, Energy, or a related field is required, or a PhD in a relevant discipline. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in engineering principles, particularly in HVAC systems and energy management.
Experience: The position requires 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience for Master's degree holders, or up to 3 years for PhD holders. Experience in project management, HVAC system design, and BMS implementation is highly desirable, along with a proven track record of managing engineering projects in a collaborative environment.
Languages: Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the other language. This bilingual requirement is essential for effective communication within the diverse CERN community.

The role involves interventions in underground installations, and a valid driving license is required. The position offers a monthly stipend ranging from 6287 to 6911 Swiss Francs (net of tax), comprehensive health coverage for the employee and their family, and various allowances depending on individual circumstances. Employees are entitled to 30 days of paid leave per year and will receive on-the-job and formal training, as well as in-house language courses.
