Job Overview:
The Health and Nutrition Supervisor plays a critical role in overseeing the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of health and nutrition activities across various health centers, stabilization sites, mobile clinics, and outreach programs. This position is essential for ensuring the quality delivery of Primary Health Care (PHC) and emergency nutrition services. The supervisor will support government health staff and strengthen community-based health responses in accordance with national protocols and Action Against Hunger standards. The role is designed to ensure effective management of health and nutrition programs through technical support, capacity building, supervision, and collaboration with government entities, communities, and partners. The supervisor will ensure that services are accessible, accountable, and delivered with quality, while also promoting gender equality, protection, and dignity for beneficiaries.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Health and Nutrition Supervisor will be responsible for a variety of essential functions, including: 1) Team Management: Supporting project staff in planning for health centers and stabilization sites, organizing monitoring and evaluation meetings, and ensuring accurate reporting from health facilities. 2) Supporting government health staff in managing mobile clinics and nutrition centers, ensuring adherence to national protocols, and identifying training gaps. 3) Data management and reporting: Ensuring proper recording of health and nutrition services, reporting on activities, and monitoring community health situations. 4) Representation: Acting as the organization's representative in local authorities and partner meetings, and upholding the values of Action Against Hunger. 5) Community outreach: Working with communities to mobilize and train Community Health Workers (CHWs) and ensuring proper data collection and quality of care. The supervisor will also be responsible for identifying problems in program implementation and proposing solutions, as well as ensuring good coordination with other team members and departments.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, Midwifery, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field. A minimum of 4 years of work experience in health and nutrition programs within the Somalia context is required. Knowledge of local cultural, social, and political dynamics is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate humanitarian experience in medical and nutrition programs, strong knowledge of health systems, and proven competence in team management and supervision. Excellent reporting, analytical, and organizational skills are essential, along with computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Candidates must also adhere to humanitarian principles and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as nutrition, Midwifery, Public Health, or Nursing. This foundational education is crucial for understanding the complexities of health and nutrition programs and for effectively managing the responsibilities associated with the role.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in health and nutrition programs, specifically within the context of Somalia. This experience should include direct involvement in program implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as familiarity with the local health landscape and community dynamics.
Languages:
Fluency in English and Somali, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication with team members, beneficiaries, and local authorities. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
Additional Notes:
The position is subject to funding availability and requires regular attendance at least five days per week. The supervisor must be available to work outside normal office hours or on weekends as necessary.
