Job Overview:
The FDPS Software Expert position is a critical role within the Engineering Division of the Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MUAC). The selected candidate will be responsible for the design and development of Flight Data Processing System (FDPS) software applications, focusing on performance, stability, and scalability. This role requires a deep understanding of software development best practices, including coding, testing, and deployment, to ensure excellence in software delivery. The expert will provide technical guidance within multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring that project deliverables meet timelines and adhere to the highest quality standards. Collaboration with stakeholders and end-users is essential to gather requirements and translate business objectives into technical specifications. The role also involves conducting in-depth analyses of system performance, identifying root causes of complex issues, and addressing potential technical and operational problems. Additionally, the expert will be responsible for developing and maintaining technical documentation throughout the software development lifecycle, ensuring compliance with software development standards and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security practices. Staying updated on technological developments and sharing knowledge within the organization is also a key aspect of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the design and development of FDPS software applications, ensuring performance, stability, and scalability.

  • Provide expert-level technical guidance within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ensure project deliverables adhere to timelines and quality standards.

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of system performance and identify root causes of complex issues.
  • Develop, review, and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications and user guides.
  • Ensure adherence to software development standards, policies, and security practices.

Required Qualifications:
  • Completed university studies in a relevant domain (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, or another related technical field) of 4 years or 3 years plus 1 year of relevant professional experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in software development.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining large-scale mission-critical systems with a large code base.
  • Proficiency in programming in multiple real-time target platforms, using primary languages such as C/C++ and Java.
  • Familiarity with modern software development practices, including DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and software architecture patterns.
  • Experience with Linux OS and scripting languages (e.g., Ksh, Perl, Python).
  • Understanding of middleware and communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of the Aviation and/or Air Traffic Management business domain is advantageous.
  • Strong English drafting skills for technical documentation.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed university studies in a relevant domain such as Computer Science, Engineering, or another related technical field. A minimum of 4 years of education is required, or 3 years of education plus 1 year of relevant professional experience. Internal candidates may refer to the intranet for equivalency of in-house experience to educational qualifications.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in software development, particularly in developing and maintaining large-scale mission-critical systems. Candidates should have experience with programming in multiple real-time target platforms and be familiar with modern software development practices such as DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.

Languages:
Proficiency in English at level C1 is mandatory for this position, as it is the working language of the Agency. Knowledge of French is also beneficial but not required. Candidates must demonstrate strong drafting skills in English, particularly for technical documentation.

Additional Notes:
The position is offered as a full-time role with a contract duration of 5 years, which may be extended or converted into an undetermined contract. The selected candidate will be required to complete a probationary period of nine months before being established in the post.
