Job Overview: The Nutritionist position at WFP involves leading community nutrition activities, particularly focusing on the promotion of local enriched or fortified nutritional products. The role is crucial in supporting nutrition programs aimed at meeting the nutritional needs of WFP beneficiaries. The Nutritionist will be responsible for developing and implementing nutrition projects, ensuring they align with broader nutrition policies and guidelines. This position requires a proactive approach to scaling up community-based nutrition activities, including establishing Learning and Nutritional Rehabilitation Centers and engaging with local communities to enhance their understanding of nutrition-sensitive programming. The Nutritionist will also work closely with various stakeholders, including government entities and NGOs, to strengthen national nutrition initiatives and ensure the sustainability of nutrition interventions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Nutritionist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Leading the development and implementation of nutrition projects and activities, ensuring alignment with WFP's nutrition policies.
Scaling up community-based nutrition activities, including establishing Learning and Nutritional Rehabilitation Centers and engaging with parent groups.
Developing strategies to ensure local ownership and sustainability of nutrition activities.
Strengthening partnerships with UNICEF and other organizations to address child malnutrition and conduct nutritional surveys.
Enhancing the capacity of the Ministry of Public Health to monitor and implement nutrition activities.
Supporting the development of government policies and guidelines on nutrition in line with international standards.
Collaborating with implementing partners to monitor project progress and address potential risks.
Contributing to the capacity building of WFP staff and partners in nutrition-related areas.
Guiding junior staff and providing support for complex analyses and queries.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, Medicine, or a related field. Fluency in both French and English is required, with a proficiency level of C. The position also requires at least three years of postgraduate professional experience in nutrition or related fields, or five years of experience following a Bachelor’s degree. Experience working with governments and communities on nutrition activities, as well as exposure to national and international development programs, is highly desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, or Medicine. This advanced degree is essential for understanding the complexities of nutrition and public health, as well as for developing effective nutrition programs and policies.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years of postgraduate professional experience in nutrition or related fields. Alternatively, candidates with five years of experience after obtaining a Bachelor’s degree will also be considered. Experience in public health, food security, and nutrition-related activities is crucial, as is familiarity with identifying and addressing nutrition issues within a country context.
Languages: Fluency in French and English is mandatory for this position, with a proficiency level of C in both languages. This bilingual requirement is essential for effective communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including local communities, government officials, and international partners.
Additional Notes: The position is a Fixed-Term Appointment with a contract duration of 12 months, which is renewable based on performance and organizational needs.
