Job Overview:
The Nutritionist position at WFP is crucial for supporting and managing nutrition programs that address the nutritional needs of beneficiaries in Niger. The Nutritionist will work closely with various stakeholders, including government bodies, to strengthen national nutrition initiatives and develop policies that align with international standards. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Nutritionist will have a range of responsibilities, including:
  • Providing technical advice to Regional Bureaus (RBs) or Country Offices (COs) on nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive program and policy issues.
  • Supporting the development of national government policies related to nutrition and contributing to the creation of action plans, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Collaborating with procurement, logistics, finance, and other program units to ensure effective design and delivery of nutrition programming.
  • Facilitating operational partnerships and inter-agency collaboration to enhance the multi-sectoral response to nutrition challenges.
  • Preparing accurate and timely reports that contribute to the knowledge base for decision-making.
  • Conducting and communicating nutrition situation assessments to stakeholders.
  • Representing WFP at various meetings to advocate for nutrition interventions and explore collaboration opportunities.
  • Building the capacity of WFP staff, partners, and national governments to address nutrition issues.
  • Supporting monitoring and evaluation efforts, providing analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">technical analysis, and guiding junior staff in complex queries. 1
  • Contributing to emergency preparedness actions and acting in an emergency response capacity as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, Medicine, or a related field. Additionally, fluency in both French and English is required, with a proficiency level of C. The role demands at least five years of postgraduate professional experience or seven years of experience post-Bachelor's degree. Candidates should have a strong background in developing nutrition policies, conducting nutritional assessments, and implementing nutrition programs, particularly in food security or health contexts. Experience in both emergency and development settings is highly desirable, as is experience working with governments and in multiple countries.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, or Medicine. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of nutrition programming and policy development, as well as for effectively addressing the nutritional needs of diverse populations.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of postgraduate professional experience in nutrition-related fields, or seven years of experience if the candidate holds only a Bachelor's degree. This experience should include working with governments on nutrition policy development and program implementation, conducting nutritional assessments, and analyzing data to inform program recommendations. Candidates with experience in both emergency and development contexts, as well as those who have worked in multiple countries, will be given preference.

Languages:
Fluency in both French and English is mandatory for this position, with a proficiency level of C in both languages. This bilingual requirement is crucial for effective communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, partners, and beneficiaries. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
