The intern will work within the Office of Inspections and Investigations (OIGI), which is part of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG). The primary focus of this role is to assist in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) services into investigative processes and to support the development of AI and machine learning models on the Microsoft Azure platform. The intern will engage in coding and scripting tasks to automate workflows, enhance data processing capabilities, and streamline processes using Microsoft Power Automate and Azure Logic Apps. This role provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with advanced AI concepts and technologies in a real-world professional setting, while contributing to the mission of WFP.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in the integration of AI services into investigative processes; supporting the development of AI and machine learning models on the Microsoft Azure platform; contributing to coding and scripting tasks using programming languages such as Python, Java, and HTML to automate workflows; designing automation and streamlining processes using Microsoft Power Automate and Azure Logic Apps; supporting API integration to ensure seamless connectivity between various software applications and platforms; assisting in the development of projects utilizing Microsoft Azure services for AI model deployment and cloud resource management; participating in data analysis and interpretation to generate insights and reports from AI model outputs; documenting development and integration processes for future reference and audits; building mapping and processing workflows to improve operational efficiency; and performing other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (having completed at least two years) or a graduate program, or be a recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate program within six months prior to applying. Additionally, candidates must have attended classes in the last 12 months of enrollment in a recognized university. Excellent written and spoken English is required, with proficiency at level C. A working knowledge of another official UN language (such as French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Portuguese) is considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in a recognized university program, either at the undergraduate or graduate level. Candidates should have completed at least two years of their undergraduate studies or be currently enrolled in a graduate program. Recent graduates who have completed their studies within the last six months are also eligible to apply. The program must be recognized by competent international or national authorities, such as UNESCO or relevant Ministries of Education.
Experience: The position is aimed at individuals who are either currently enrolled in a university program or have recently graduated. Therefore, specific prior work experience is not a strict requirement; however, familiarity with programming languages and AI concepts will be beneficial. The internship is designed to provide practical experience in a professional setting, allowing interns to develop their skills further while contributing to the organization's mission.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, with a requirement for excellent written and spoken communication skills. Additionally, knowledge of another official UN language is advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application. Additional Notes: This internship is a remote position with a duration of four months, expected to start on 15 September. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of up to US$1,000, depending on the duty station of assignment. However, WFP does not cover living expenses, accommodation arrangements, or visa costs. Travel reimbursement is available for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country. It is important to note that family members of current WFP employees are not eligible to apply for this internship.
