Job Overview:
The position of volunteer within the Communication and Information Sector of UNESCO aims to foster the development of an inclusive, pluralistic, and diverse media ecosystem. This is essential for ensuring freedom of expression and universal access to information. The volunteer will assist in various tasks that align with the sector's objectives, which include media content analysis, news monitoring, data collection and analysis, database management, and administrative support. The role is designed to provide practical experience in communication and information management while contributing to UNESCO's mission of promoting education, science, and culture. Volunteers will be expected to engage actively with the sector's initiatives and contribute to the overall goals of enhancing media literacy, digital skills, and the preservation of indigenous languages.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The volunteer will be responsible for a range of duties that include:
  • Conducting media content analysis and monitoring news to assess trends and impacts.
  • Researching and analyzing various types of data, statistics, and indicators relevant to communication and information.
  • Systematizing and updating databases to ensure accurate and accessible information.
  • Providing administrative and logistical support to the sector's activities.
  • Engaging in other relevant tasks that may arise in support of the sector's work programs.
  • Maintaining open communication with the sector to address requests and provide updates on progress.
  • Upholding the principles of respect for diversity and human rights in all interactions and outputs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
  • Be at least 20 years old.
  • Be a Mexican national who has completed their studies or is in their final year of undergraduate studies (Bachelor's degree or Technical Higher Education) in communication or journalism at any higher education institution in Mexico.
  • Have basic knowledge of digital tools for writing and editing texts, creating digital presentations, and managing databases.
  • Possess basic English language skills.
  • Have access to the internet and a personal computer at home. The organization particularly encourages applications from women, individuals who identify as indigenous, Afro-descendant, LGBTTTIQ+, and those residing outside Mexico City or from public higher education institutions.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes completion of secondary education and enrollment in or completion of a higher education program in communication or journalism. This ensures that candidates have a foundational understanding of the principles and practices relevant to the field, which is critical for effective participation in the volunteer role.

Experience:
While specific professional experience is not mandatory, candidates should demonstrate familiarity with communication practices and a willingness to learn and engage in the sector's activities. The duration of the contract ranges from 1 to 6 months, and the position is open to external candidates.
