Job Overview: The Economic Research and Policy Analyst position is situated within the Transport Research and Policy Section of the Transport Division at ESCAP. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Transport Research and Policy Section and will be responsible for conducting economic and sector analysis related to the just transition in electric mobility in Thailand. This role involves collecting, evaluating, and interpreting socio-economic data, assisting in the design and modification of econometric models, and preparing materials that communicate complex economic issues to non-specialists. The analyst will also contribute to organizing expert group meetings and seminars, and will be involved in technical cooperation projects aimed at economic development. The position requires a strong analytical mindset, the ability to visualize data effectively, and a commitment to promoting gender perspectives in all areas of work.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities including:
Conducting economic and sector analysis by collecting and interpreting statistics and qualitative information related to electric mobility in Thailand.
Assisting in the design, testing, and operation of econometric models to support research initiatives.
Preparing briefing notes and inputs for speeches that translate complex economic issues into accessible formats for non-specialists.
Organizing and servicing expert group meetings and seminars focused on just transition in electric mobility.
Compiling and analyzing data for the preparation of technical cooperation project proposals.
Drafting documentation for technical cooperation programs and projects.
Performing various administrative tasks to ensure the effective delivery of the work unit’s services.
Engaging in on-the-job training and contributing to the collection and analysis of data to identify trends and patterns, providing insights through data visualization methods.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong foundation in economic theories and their practical applications. They should demonstrate the ability to identify and develop sources for data collection, conduct research, analyze data, and write comprehensive reports. The ideal candidate will show professionalism, accountability, and effective communication skills, with a commitment to gender equality and diversity in the workplace. The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines is essential, along with a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics, environmental studies, sustainable development, or a transport-related field is required. Alternatively, a relevant first-level university degree in the aforementioned fields combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: A minimum of two years of responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, or the application of economic principles in development programs is required. Experience specifically related to the transition to electric mobility in the Asia-Pacific region is desirable. Familiarity with the United Nations Common System or similar international organizations is also advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English is required as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN official language, such as French, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's profile.
