Job Overview: The Assistant Technical Officer (ATO), Primary Health Care (PHC) plays a crucial role in delivering primary health care services to vulnerable populations in Bama, Borno State. This position involves triaging, examining, diagnosing, and treating patients who require primary health care. The ATO-PHC will be responsible for prescribing appropriate treatments based on diagnoses and ensuring that patients receive necessary follow-up care. The role requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality patient care, participate in community health programs, and maintain accurate records of patient care. The ATO-PHC must stay informed about current developments in clinical management and contribute to the overall health care delivery system in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Technical Officer, Primary Health Care include:
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality patient care to vulnerable populations.
Accurately diagnosing, treating, and managing patients in a primary health care setting.
Assessing patients and referring them for specialized health care when necessary.
Participating in the delivery of quality health care services.
Engaging in outreach and community health programs as required.
Providing health education to patients to promote better health practices.
Maintaining accurate records of patient care, including consumables and instruments used.
Collaborating with technical and M&E teams to collect baseline data for project evaluation. 1

Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Assistant Technical Officer, Primary Health Care position include:
A medical degree (MB.BS, MD, or equivalent) with a valid practicing license.
A minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience in emergency and constrained settings, with experience in international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) being highly desirable.
Familiarity with Nigerian public sector health systems, NGOs, and community-based organizations (CBOs) is preferred.
Previous experience working in humanitarian crises is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of the Nigerian clinical setting, including government and non-government health services.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a medical degree (MB.BS, MD, or equivalent) from a recognized institution. The educational background should include training in primary health care, clinical management, and relevant medical practices that prepare the candidate for work in emergency and humanitarian settings.
Experience: The position requires 1-3 years of relevant experience in clinical settings, particularly in emergency and constrained environments. Experience working with international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) is preferred, as is familiarity with the Nigerian health care system and previous involvement in humanitarian responses.
Languages: Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory, along with fluency in Hausa being highly desirable. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages is essential for interacting with patients and collaborating with team members.
