Job Overview:
The Front-end Developer position is a critical role within the FAO Albania team, focusing on the development and enhancement of the Farmers' Portal and its mobile application. This position is part of a larger initiative aimed at leveraging digital technology to improve agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods in Albania. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a user-friendly, responsive, and accessible interface that meets the needs of farmers and other stakeholders. The role requires collaboration with a diverse team, including service designers, back-end developers, and data scientists, to ensure that the digital services provided are inclusive and effective. The developer will also be tasked with implementing features that facilitate user interaction, such as geospatial tools and chatbot functionalities, thereby enhancing the overall user experience of the platform.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in front-end or mobile application development is required. Proficiency in both English and Albanian is essential, and candidates must be nationals of Albania. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate core competencies such as results focus, teamwork, communication, and the ability to build effective relationships. Technical skills in e-government services, version control systems, responsive web applications, and map-based UI components are highly desirable.
Educational Background:
A university degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development, or a related field is mandatory for this position. This educational background ensures that the candidate has the foundational knowledge and technical skills necessary to perform the duties of a Front-end Developer effectively.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in front-end or mobile application development. This experience should include a strong portfolio demonstrating the candidate's ability to build responsive and user-friendly web applications, particularly those that involve user interaction with data or maps. Familiarity with agile development environments and collaborative work with diverse teams is also important.
Languages:
Proficiency in English and Albanian is mandatory for this role. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages is crucial for collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
Additional Notes:
The position offers a National Personal Service Agreement (PSA.NAT) contract for an initial duration of 230 days, equivalent to 11 months. A mandatory break from duty of at least 30 consecutive days is required within any twelve-month period, after which the contract may be renewed based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. Only individuals holding citizenship or a valid residence permit in Albania are eligible to apply for this position.

- Develop and Maintain Front-End Interfaces: Design and develop the web-based interface and cross-platform mobile app using technologies like React or React Native. Ensure that the application is responsive across devices, particularly optimizing for low-end Android smartphones. Apply multilingual and accessibility standards to cater to rural and underserved user groups, translating Figma designs and prototypes into maintainable code.
- Implement Geospatial and Farmer-Oriented Features: Integrate map-based tools for functionalities such as field boundary drawing and geolocation. Display geospatial products over user-defined areas and build intuitive interfaces for data submission from farmers and inspectors, ensuring offline functionality.
- Enable Interactive Services and Chatbot UI: Develop frontend components for a chatbot interface, collaborating with back-end developers to manage data retrieval and user interactions effectively.
- Support Testing, Iteration, and Integration: Conduct frontend testing, participate in user validation sessions, and work closely with back-end developers for API integration. Address interface bugs and optimize performance under varying bandwidth conditions.
