Job Overview:
The Civil Peace Service (CPS) program is dedicated to preventing violence and fostering peace in crisis and conflict regions. In Cameroon, the CPS plays a crucial role in nonviolent conflict transformation, violence prevention, and enhancing social cohesion. The CPS supports civil society partners in their collective efforts towards non-violent conflict resolution, improving social relations through dialogue, and encouraging democratic participation among youth. The position of CPS Advisor will involve working closely with the GIZ office in Douala and the partner organization doual’art, focusing on dialogue initiatives that promote civic engagement and gender inclusion in peacebuilding processes. The advisor will be responsible for shaping the strategic direction of the CPS Cameroon program, developing capacities within the CPS team and partner organizations, and integrating creative approaches into dialogue processes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in social or political sciences, peace and conflict studies, pedagogics, arts and humanities, or a related field. Additionally, several years of expertise and practical experience in peacebuilding, dialogue, and conflict analysis and transformation are required. Experience in utilizing arts and culture for social transformation processes, particularly with youth, is essential. Candidates should have professional experience in fragile contexts, with a preference for those who have worked in Africa, and knowledge of Cameroon is considered an asset. Strong reflective advisory competencies and the ability to work collaboratively with civil society organizations are also necessary. Candidates should demonstrate patience, flexibility, autonomy, and high frustration tolerance, along with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural team and sensitivity to issues such as racism and colonial legacies.
Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in relevant fields such as social or political sciences, peace and conflict studies, pedagogics, arts and humanities is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to effectively contribute to the CPS program and its objectives.
Experience:
Candidates should have several years of relevant experience in peacebuilding, dialogue, and conflict transformation. Practical experience in using arts and culture for social change, particularly in working with youth, is highly valued. Experience in fragile contexts and familiarity with the socio-political landscape of Africa, especially Cameroon, will be advantageous. The role requires a proven ability to work collaboratively with civil society organizations and to engage in partner-oriented work, demonstrating strong advisory competencies and reflective practices.
Languages:
Business fluency in both French and English is mandatory for this position. - Contributing to the strategic direction of the GIZ CPS Cameroon program by supporting dialogue-related components of partner organizations’ projects and co-developing joint initiatives focused on youth civic engagement and gender inclusion.
- Developing the capacities of the CPS team and partner organizations on dialogue through the enhancement of the existing 'School of Dialogue' initiative.
- Co-conceptualizing the integration of creative approaches and artistic expression into dialogue processes, leveraging the experiences of doual’art and the youth they engage with.
- Assessing the organizational development needs of doual’art and co-developing responses to address these needs.
- Coordinating with CPS focal points and partner organizations in the Southwest region to work on dialogue initiatives that address historical narratives and their impact on current conflicts.
- Monitoring outcomes and fostering reflection on approaches and methodologies with partner organizations.
- Supporting the integration of conflict sensitivity, human rights, and gender perspectives in all project measures.
- Documenting learning experiences and good practices for knowledge management among the CPS team and partners.
