Job Overview:
The position of Individual Consultant specializing in Media and Communication at UNESCO Bangkok is a high-impact advisory role that focuses on enhancing the organization's visibility and communication strategies in the Asia-Pacific region. The consultant will be responsible for analyzing complex communication issues and developing innovative solutions that align with UNESCO's goals, particularly in the context of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The role involves providing strategic advice, quality control, and management support to the Regional Director, ensuring effective communication with senior program specialists and external partners. The consultant will also be tasked with developing communication materials, leading external communication activities, and overseeing the production of content for various platforms, including the UNESCO website and social media channels. This position requires a deep understanding of UNESCO's mandate and the ability to navigate the complexities of communication within the UN system.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Individual Consultant will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including:
  • Providing strategic advisory input on communication strategies and approaches to enhance UNESCO's visibility in the region.
  • Analyzing complex communication challenges and proposing innovative solutions.
  • Developing political and strategic briefing notes for senior UNESCO officials.
  • Writing, editing, and reviewing communication materials such as speeches, press statements, and outreach documents.
  • Overseeing the production of content for the UNESCO web portal and social media channels, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Leading the planning and implementation of strategic communication activities.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with media organizations and journalists.
  • Collaborating on UN communications work and representing UNESCO at major events.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in communications, public relations, or journalism is required, with significant experience in strategic advisory roles. Proven ability to analyze complex communication challenges and develop innovative strategies or policy proposals is essential. Extensive experience working within the UN system or similar international organizations, along with established contacts with Asia-Pacific media outlets, is highly desirable. Exceptional English writing and communication skills are mandatory, as well as strong leadership and coordination skills to manage complex communication projects.

Educational Background:
