Job Overview:
The Consultant for DTM Surveys will play a crucial role in the implementation of the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), a system designed to monitor and track the movement and mobility of populations. This position involves conducting surveys at designated information collection points, providing information about IOM programs to migrant populations, and ensuring adherence to established safety protocols during field operations. The consultant will actively participate in planning and generating a monthly data collection calendar, report incidents during DTM applications, and propose adjustments based on field experiences. This role requires close coordination with the logistics associate and the field office leadership, ensuring that the needs of the monitoring operation are met effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct DTM surveys at information collection points according to the established sampling design and monthly calendar.
  • Provide information about IOM programs to migrants in monitoring spaces, following organizational guidelines.
  • Adhere to established safety protocols during field operations.
  • Actively participate in planning and generating the monthly data collection calendar.
  • Participate in monthly missions to cities in the northeast, including but not limited to Reynosa, Matamoros, Saltillo, Piedras Negras, and Ciudad Acuña.
  • Report any incidents during DTM applications and document logistical setbacks, interactions, and contextual information gathered in the field.
  • Inform about changes in relevance or any circumstances impacting information collection points and monitoring operation needs.
  • Review and propose adjustments to the monthly calendar based on field experiences and identification of new migrant concentration points.
  • Support the application of other surveys and information collection exercises by IOM Mexico. 1
  • Channel migrants to various IOM programs according to established guidelines. 1
  • Actively participate in relevant training for the position and communicate necessary training needs for effective performance. 1
  • Identify and communicate the needs of the survey team to the DTM Supervisor, including training, visibility elements, and work devices. 1
  • Perform other associated functions relevant to the successful execution of projects as assigned by the supervisor based on program needs.

Required Qualifications:
  • A completed or incomplete bachelor's degree in social sciences or related fields.
  • Experience in data collection through fieldwork.
  • Relevant experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly migrants.
  • Experience in local projects related to migration issues, identifying vulnerable groups, and developing operational strategies.
  • Knowledge of migration issues and assistance to migrants.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences or a related field is required, with preference given to candidates who have completed their degree. Candidates with incomplete degrees may also be considered if they meet other qualifications.

Experience:
Candidates should have experience in data collection through fieldwork, particularly with vulnerable populations such as migrants. Relevant experience in local projects related to migration, identifying vulnerable groups, and developing operational strategies is essential. Knowledge of migration issues and assistance to migrants is also required.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory. Knowledge of another language will be considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate with diverse populations.

The position requires availability for travel at least once a month, with travel expenses covered by the program. This vacancy is subject to funding availability.
