Job Overview: As the Open Science Manager at CERN, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Open Science both within CERN and in the broader scientific community. This position is situated within the Research & Computing Sector (RCS), specifically in the Scientific Information Service (SIS). The SIS is dedicated to supporting scientists in accessing the information they need and promoting open science practices throughout their research endeavors. You will be responsible for initiating and participating in discussions and governance processes related to open science across the organization. Your role will involve taking ownership of existing or new projects that pertain to open science practices, either within CERN or in collaboration with international partners. Additionally, you will actively disseminate CERN's values regarding open science to various stakeholders across particle physics and other scientific disciplines. As part of CERN's central open science office, you will support the implementation of CERN's open science policy and ensure the smooth operation of existing tools, services, and collaborations in this domain.
Duties and Responsibilities: In your capacity as Open Science Manager, you will be expected to contribute significantly to the evolution of CERN's Open Science policy. This includes facilitating stakeholder exchanges within CERN and with partner research organizations, translating community needs into actionable policy measures. You will represent CERN at international conferences and projects, showcasing the organization's leadership in open science. Your responsibilities will also encompass engaging with strategic stakeholders in collaboratively organized projects and representing CERN's interests in project or collaboration governance bodies. Furthermore, you will organize and ensure the efficient operation of cross-departmental projects and initiatives in the open science and information management field, which includes managing relationships with international partners. As projects progress, you will have the opportunity to supervise a diverse team of specialists in scientific information management and open science, fostering a productive and collaborative working environment.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the Open Science Manager position, candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Information Management or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have experience managing open science and/or scholarly publishing projects in both operational and coordinating roles. A sound understanding of open science strategies and their implications for open access to scientific publications and other research outputs, such as data and software, is essential. Familiarity with scientific publishing procedures and best practices in an academic context is also required. Engagement with the scientific community or an existing network in the scholarly publishing domain is advantageous, as is experience in managing a diverse team.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Information Management or a closely related discipline. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of open science and information management.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have substantial experience in managing open science and scholarly publishing projects. This includes both operational and coordinating roles, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of open science strategies and their implications for access to scientific publications and other research outputs. Additional Notes: The Open Science Manager position is a limited duration contract for five years, with the possibility of applying for an indefinite position subject to certain conditions. The role requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, and the job grade is classified as 6-
