Job Overview:
The Open Science Manager position at CERN is a pivotal role aimed at shaping the future of Open Science both within CERN and in the broader scientific community. The successful candidate will join the Research & Computing Sector (RCS) and will be part of the Scientific Information Service (SIS), which is responsible for supporting scientists in accessing information and applying open science practices in their research. The role involves initiating and participating in discussions about open science governance, managing projects related to open science practices, and promoting CERN's values of openness and collaboration. The Open Science Manager will work closely with various stakeholders, ensuring the effective implementation of CERN's open science policy and the smooth operation of tools and services in this domain. This position requires a proactive approach to engage with the scientific community and to represent CERN at international conferences and projects, highlighting its leadership in open science.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As the Open Science Manager, you will be responsible for several key functions:
  • Contributing to the evolution of CERN's Open Science policy by facilitating stakeholder exchanges and translating community needs into actionable policy measures.
  • Representing CERN at international conferences and projects, showcasing its leadership in open science.
  • Engaging with strategic stakeholders to collaboratively organize projects and represent CERN's interests in governance bodies.
  • Organizing and managing cross-departmental projects and initiatives in open science and information management, including stakeholder management with international partners.
  • Supervising a diverse team of specialists in scientific information management and open science, fostering a collaborative working environment.
  • Ensuring the smooth operation of existing tools and services related to open science, and actively supporting the implementation of CERN's open science policy.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Open Science Manager position should possess a Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Information Management or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have a strong background in managing open science and scholarly publishing projects, with a sound understanding of open science strategies and their implications for access to scientific publications and research outputs. Familiarity with scientific publishing procedures and best practices in an academic context is essential, as is experience in engaging with the scientific community and having an existing network in the scholarly publishing domain. Experience in managing a diverse team is considered an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a Master's degree or equivalent in Information Management or a related field. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of open science practices and the management of scientific information.

Experience:
The position requires significant experience in managing open science and scholarly publishing projects, both operationally and in a coordinating capacity. Candidates should demonstrate a sound understanding of open science strategies and their operational landscape, as well as experience in engaging with the scientific community and managing diverse teams. Familiarity with scientific publishing procedures and best practices is also necessary.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position, along with a commitment to learn French. Proficiency in French will be considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication within the organization and with French-speaking stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of applying for an indefinite position subject to certain conditions. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the job grade is classified as 6-
