Job Overview: The Experienced Education Technical Assistant will play a crucial role in implementing educational programs in compliance with NRC's policies and project requirements. This position involves planning and executing program activities, coordinating with government education stakeholders, and mobilizing communities to enhance educational participation. The assistant will also be responsible for monitoring the distribution of educational materials, ensuring safe learning environments, and supervising learning facilitators. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying and addressing challenges in the education program, as well as providing training to teachers and collaborating with other organizations in the Education in Emergencies Working Group.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
Implement activities based on project and program requirements.
Prepare status reports for internal and external reporting.
Ensure proper filing of documents and means of verification.
Identify and share ideas for improvement of the Education program.
Plan and implement program activities in compliance with project log frame, budget, work plan, and proposal.
Liaise with government education stakeholders for effective coordination.
Mobilize communities to support learning opportunities and educational participation.
Identify and register children and youth for learning activities based on NRC and donor criteria. 1
Plan, oversee, and document the distribution of materials and supplies for learning, verifying amounts received and distributed, and recording any losses. 1
Monitor activities and ensure accuracy of data collection and tracking of community feedback and complaints in coordination with NRC's Protection and Complaints and Feedback Units. 1
Ensure that learning spaces are safe for learners and report any protection concerns. 1
Supervise learning facilitators and enumerators and report performance concerns. 1
Provide training to teachers on pedagogy, child protection, and NRC’s Better Learning Program. 1
Develop weekly work plans and other key implementation planning documents. 1
Monitor implementation and provide recommendations to improve the quality of implementation. 1
Coordinate with other NRC programs and organizations implementing education activities and actively participate in Education in Emergencies Working Group meetings.
Required Qualifications:
At least 2 years of experience in a similar position with a national or international NGO or a United Nations organization in the northeast of Nigeria.
Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
Experience in activity planning and budget management.
Experience working with and mobilizing communities.
Fluent English - speaking, reading, writing.
Analytic and computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Formal or non-formal teaching experience preferred.
Experience working in humanitarian or development activities in the northeast of Nigeria.
Fluent spoken Hausa language, with other local languages being an advantage.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to the educational programs and initiatives implemented by NRC.
Experience: Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably with a national or international NGO or a United Nations organization. This experience should be specifically in the northeast of Nigeria, demonstrating familiarity with the local context and challenges faced in humanitarian and educational settings.
Languages: Fluent English is mandatory, with proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing. Additionally, fluency in Hausa is required, and knowledge of other local languages is considered an advantage, enhancing communication with the communities served.
