Job Overview:
The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of a project aimed at assisting forcibly returned Brazilian citizens. This position involves working under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator based in Brasília. The successful candidate will be responsible for various project-related activities, including project development, reporting, monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge management. The role requires a proactive approach to assist in the coordination of project activities, ensuring that the needs of forcibly returned individuals are met with dignity and respect for their human rights. The Project Assistant will also engage with local authorities, partners, and stakeholders to facilitate effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities; retrieving, compiling, summarizing, analyzing, and presenting information/data on specific project topics; drafting status reports and identifying shortfalls in delivery; responding to complex information requests and inquiries; maintaining files and records; participating in meetings and conferences; liaising with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders; executing administrative tasks related to PRISM/WAVE; supporting text editing, proofreading, and translation to ensure quality of IOM products; assisting with operational, administrative, and procurement aspects of the project; planning, organizing, managing logistics, and facilitating events and activities; and performing other work-related tasks as required.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma with a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience, or a university degree in social sciences, political sciences, psychology, law, public policy, health, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with at least two years of experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Additionally, candidates should have experience in translation and revision of technical and business documents, technical writing, editing, and reporting, as well as working experience in a migration context.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or a university degree in relevant fields such as social sciences, political sciences, psychology, law, public policy, health, or related areas. The degree must be from an accredited institution recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Candidates with a high school diploma must have a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience, while those with a university degree must have at least two years of experience in related roles.
Experience:
The position requires candidates to have substantial experience in translation and revision of technical and business documents, technical writing, editing, and reporting. Candidates should also have working experience in a migration context, with thorough knowledge of IOM's mandate and activities in Brazil. Experience in liaising with Brazilian government agencies, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs is essential. Understanding of migration law, refugee law, TIP law, and related jurisprudence is also necessary, along with experience working with social protection or health systems in Brazil and collaboration with government, civil society, UN, or private sector actors.
Languages:
The mandatory language requirement for this position is advanced proficiency in Portuguese. Additionally, candidates with advanced proficiency in English and Spanish will have an advantage. IOM's official languages are English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Brazil will be eligible for consideration. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and government authorizations where applicable.
