  • Interns will be expected to engage in various activities that support the office's mission, including assisting with press reviews, developing awareness-raising activities, and supporting communication efforts with various stakeholders. This role provides an excellent opportunity for interns to gain practical experience in the field of refugee protection and to contribute to meaningful initiatives that impact the lives of displaced persons.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: assisting with the compilation of a daily press review to keep the team informed about relevant news; developing and implementing awareness-raising activities to promote understanding of refugee issues; supporting cooperation with institutions, companies, and media; drafting articles and other texts to communicate the office's work; conducting research and translation work as needed; reviewing, finalizing, and formatting texts produced by the team; supporting the management of the office's website and social media activities; assisting in the organization of events; responding to telephone inquiries; and performing other tasks as required by the team.

Required Qualifications:
To be eligible for this internship, candidates must meet specific criteria: they should be either recent graduates or current students from an accredited university or higher education facility, having completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in media, international relations, or related fields. A strong interest in refugee protection is essential. Candidates must not have exhausted the maximum cumulative internship period with UNHCR, which is eight months for full-time internships and twelve months for part-time internships. Additionally, candidates should possess excellent knowledge of English, as well as proficiency in German and French at a minimum B2 level. Strong drafting skills and a good understanding of communication and public relations principles are also required. Familiarity with design tools like Canva and social media platforms is advantageous, as is knowledge of the Swiss media landscape.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in relevant fields such as media, international relations, or related studies. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of refugee issues and the communication strategies necessary for advocacy and awareness-raising activities.

Experience:
While specific prior work experience is not mandatory for this internship, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in refugee protection and relevant academic knowledge. Additionally, selected candidates must provide proof of health insurance coverage and a certificate of good health from a qualified medical practitioner before starting the internship.
