The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) is a member of the World Bank Group, established to promote foreign direct investment into developing countries. MIGA's mission is to help end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet by providing political risk insurance and public sector credit guarantees to investors and lenders against losses caused by noncommercial risks. Job Overview:
The Regional Head of Latin America and Caribbean Hub is a pivotal role within MIGA's Operations Department, focusing on developing the agency's business pipeline in the region, particularly in lesser developed countries. The position requires extensive experience in political and public sector credit risk underwriting, new business origination, and client relationship management. The selected candidate will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, achieving business targets, and growing the World Bank Group guarantee business. This role involves frequent interaction with high-level government officials, private sector companies, and financial institutions, necessitating strong diplomatic skills and a client-oriented approach. The Regional Head will also oversee the provision of technical underwriting support and ensure quality assurance for the regional team's work, while collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver high-level business results.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Regional Head include developing and implementing strategies to identify clients and projects in priority sectors, overseeing technical underwriting support, conducting outreach to clients, and ensuring quality assurance for the regional team's outputs. The Regional Head will manage relationships with host governments and officials in priority markets, collaborate with other units within MIGA and the World Bank Group, and ensure consistency of MIGA's guarantees with country partnership strategies. Responsibilities also encompass identifying new business opportunities, developing client leads, structuring complex transactions, coaching junior staff, and representing MIGA at high-level conferences. Frequent travel is required to follow up on project opportunities that may lead to new business for MIGA.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in international Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field, along with at least 12 years of directly relevant experience in areas such as political risk underwriting, public finance, project finance, or private sector work in emerging markets. Extensive knowledge of emerging markets finance and economic development is essential, as well as sound analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">financial analysis skills and a proven track record in business development. Candidates should demonstrate high-level technical underwriting skills, a strong client orientation, and the ability to manage and motivate teams effectively. Experience in working across boundaries and with key multilateral institutions is also required.
Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in international Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field is mandatory for this position. This educational background provides the necessary theoretical foundation and analytical skills required for the complex financial and economic issues that the Regional Head will encounter in their role.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 12 years of directly relevant experience, which should include political risk underwriting, public finance, project finance, and private sector work in emerging markets. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to lead teams, deliver high-quality work results, and manage complex project risks effectively. Experience in guiding and mentoring staff on technical and business issues is also essential.
Languages:
Fluency in English and Spanish is mandatory, with excellent written and oral communication skills required. The ability to speak Portuguese is considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with stakeholders in the region.
