Job Overview:
The Finance Intern position at UNU is designed to provide support to the Finance team, which is an integral part of the UNU-Centre Administration. The Finance team operates from the Global Services Centre in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and is responsible for delivering comprehensive financial services to UNU institutes and offices globally. The intern will engage in various analytical, reporting, policy development, and administrative tasks that are crucial for the team's continuous improvement efforts. This role will involve conducting research, performing data analysis, and assisting in the preparation of financial reports, thereby contributing to the development of financial policies and strategies. The intern will also support the maintenance of the Finance Intranet and participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives, making this position an excellent opportunity for those looking to gain practical experience in finance within an international organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities under the supervision of the Chief of Finance and in close collaboration with the Finance team. Key duties include conducting research and performing data analysis to support the drafting of finance and operational policies, procedures, and guidelines. The intern will assist in the collection and analysis of financial data, contributing to the preparation of financial reports. Additionally, the intern will help organize and document meetings, which includes drafting agendas, minutes, correspondence, presentations, and other communication materials. The role also involves supporting the maintenance and enhancement of the Finance Intranet, including content updates and design improvements. Furthermore, the intern will contribute to knowledge sharing and capacity building by supporting training sessions, participating in internal knowledge networks, and assisting with the community of practice. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess excellent communication and presentation skills, along with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Power BI. The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-cultural team is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the values of the United Nations, including integrity, humility, and humanity, and should be able to connect and collaborate with others to advance the work of the organization.

Educational Background:
Applicants should have completed university studies in one of the following disciplines: Finance, Business Administration, or a related area. Candidates must be in their final year of undergraduate study or enrolled in a graduate degree program, or they should be within two years of graduation from a bachelor's, master's, or PhD degree program.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a foundational understanding of finance and related disciplines, as well as practical experience in data analysis and financial reporting. While specific prior work experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships or academic projects that demonstrate the candidate's ability to perform the required tasks will be advantageous.

Languages:
Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral, are required for this position. Knowledge of another UN language is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.

The internship is remote and has a duration of 6 months, starting on 1 August 202
  • Interns who do not receive financial support from other sources will receive a stipend from UNU to help cover basic living costs during the internship. The stipend amount will be determined based on the rates in effect for the duty station. It is important to note that UNU does not sponsor a working visa for this position, and consultants do not hold international civil servant status.
