Job Overview: The Logistics Assistant will play a crucial role in providing operational, administrative, and analytical support for transport and dispatch operations from Douala, focusing on the Cameroon and Central African Republic (CAR) corridors. Duties and Responsibilities: The Logistics Assistant will be responsible for monitoring cargo movements from Douala port to various delivery points in Cameroon and CAR. Key duties include assisting in the planning and coordination of transport schedules with contracted transporters, verifying transport documentation for completeness and compliance, and entering, compiling, and analyzing logistics data related to dispatched quantities, losses, returns, and transit delays. The Assistant will prepare weekly and monthly logistics performance reports using tools like Excel pivot tables, support dispatch activities, manage the reconditioning of damaged cargo, and oversee warehouse control processes. Additionally, the role involves tracking handling, storage, and transport costs in accordance with WFP procedures, coordinating with Cooperating Partners to facilitate last-mile delivery, maintaining a comprehensive filing system of logistics documents, assisting with pest control operations, and ensuring adherence to WFP safety, health, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security standards during all logistics operations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree or diploma (minimum BAC+2 or equivalent) in logistics, transport, supply chain management, or a related field. Additionally, at least 3 years of relevant work experience in logistics, dispatch, transport, or warehouse operations is required, preferably with humanitarian agencies, NGOs, or logistics companies. Technical skills include proficiency in Microsoft Excel, particularly in pivot tables and basic data analysis, as well as a solid understanding of cargo handling and storage methods, including FIFO, FEFO, and LIFO, along with familiarity with Incoterms. Behavioral skills such as strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and the capacity to work under pressure in multicultural teams are also essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree or diploma in logistics, transport, supply chain management, or a related field. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of logistics operations and ensuring compliance with industry standards and practices.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in logistics, dispatch, transport, or warehouse operations. Experience with humanitarian agencies, NGOs, or logistics companies is preferred, as it provides valuable insights into the unique challenges and requirements of humanitarian logistics.
Languages: Full working proficiency in French (oral and written) is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication in the region.
