Job Overview:
The Project Field Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the design, monitoring, and implementation of quick impact projects focused on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and other infrastructure development in Katsina and Zamfara States. This position requires a strong commitment to enhancing community livelihoods through effective project management under the Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response, and Resilience (CPCRR) Programme. The Project Field Associate will work closely with local communities, stakeholders, and beneficiaries to ensure that projects are aligned with community needs and expectations. The role demands excellent organizational skills, the ability to work collaboratively in diverse environments, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting community needs assessments, preparing project plans, and overseeing project execution to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct community needs assessments and technical feasibility studies for infrastructure projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of project plans, designs, technical specifications, bill of quantities, and tender documents for quick-impact projects.
  • Oversee and monitor quick impact projects, particularly in WASH management and basic infrastructure development.
  • Conduct regular site visits to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and quality standards.
  • Collect and analyze data on project progress and report findings to the head of the sub-office.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and report any incidents or concerns.
  • Liaise with local communities and stakeholders to gather feedback and provide project updates.
  • Facilitate community meetings to discuss project goals and gather input for improvements.
  • Prepare detailed reports on project progress, challenges, and successes for stakeholders. 1
  • Maintain accurate records of project expenditures, materials, and labor. 1
  • Support the training of local workers in construction techniques and project management. 1
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma with five years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field with three years of relevant experience or internships. A strong understanding of civil engineering principles and practices related to infrastructure projects is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and other engineering software is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience in liaising with governmental authorities and knowledge of construction safety regulations are also important qualifications for this role.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a high school diploma with five years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Candidates with internships or relevant experience in civil engineering or construction will be given preference. Accredited universities recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database are preferred for degree qualifications. Strong computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office applications and engineering software, is also required.

Experience:
Candidates should have a strong understanding of water and small infrastructure projects, with at least three years of relevant experience in project management or civil engineering. Experience working in humanitarian or development contexts, particularly related to migration and human trafficking, is highly desirable. The ability to work collaboratively in diverse and challenging environments is essential, along with experience in liaising with governmental authorities and other stakeholders. Candidates should also demonstrate a proven ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with various partners, including NGOs and international organizations.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory. Knowledge of the native languages of northwest Nigeria, such as Hausa and Fulfulde, is highly desirable. Proficiency in IOM's official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish, will be evaluated during the selection process. Candidates may be assessed on their language skills through written and/or oral evaluations as part of the recruitment process.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Nigeria will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, residency verification, and necessary government authorizations. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months.
