Job Overview:
The Livelihood Project Associate will play a crucial role in implementing and managing livelihood and climate mitigation projects aimed at enhancing the economic resilience and self-sufficiency of vulnerable communities. This position requires collaboration with local partners, government agencies, and community members to ensure effective delivery of livelihood interventions. The associate will be responsible for monitoring project progress, preparing reports, and managing resources, ensuring that projects align with organizational goals and community needs. The expected outcomes include strengthened economic resilience, expanded income-generating activities for beneficiaries, and fostered partnerships with local organizations and government bodies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Project Implementation and Resource Management: Implement livelihood projects in accordance with organizational goals and community needs. Monitor and evaluate project progress, ensuring timely and effective delivery of activities. Prepare regular reports on project status, challenges, and achievements. Manage project resources, including budget, materials, and personnel, ensuring efficient and transparent use of resources in line with organizational policies.
  • Community Engagement and Capacity Building: Conduct community assessments to identify livelihood needs and opportunities. Facilitate training sessions and workshops for beneficiaries on various livelihood skills. Collaborate with local partners and government agencies to enhance community participation and ownership of projects.
  • Coordination and Collaboration: Coordinate with other departments and stakeholders to integrate livelihood activities into broader development initiatives. Participate in meetings and forums related to livelihood, economic development, climate change, and environmental management.
  • Perform any other general administrative duties assigned by the managers.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a High School diploma with five years of related experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Economics, Social Sciences, Environmental Science, Climate Studies, Natural Resource Management, or a related field with three years of related experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of livelihood strategies and economic development principles, along with good communication, reporting, and negotiation skills. Excellent monitoring, managerial, and organizational skills are essential, as well as the ability to work with limited supervision and manage multiple tasks effectively in challenging situations.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a High School diploma with five years of related experience or a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Development Studies, Economics, Social Sciences, Environmental Science, Climate Studies, or Natural Resource Management. Candidates must have graduated from accredited universities recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience:
A minimum of three years of experience in livelihood programming or community development is required. Candidates should have a strong understanding of livelihood strategies and economic development principles, as well as experience in project management and community engagement.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, both oral and written. Knowledge of Hausa and Fulfulde is considered an advantage. Proficiency in these languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

Recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months.
