Job Overview:
The Field Staff position is crucial for the implementation and management of field activities related to livelihood and climate adaptation projects. This role requires working under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and the Head of Office in Katsina, with additional technical guidance from the Program Manager for Livelihood. The Field Staff will engage closely with local communities, partners, and government agencies to ensure the successful delivery of project activities. Responsibilities include assisting in the implementation of community-based climate adaptation plans, facilitating workshops, supporting reforestation projects, conducting community vulnerability assessments, and analyzing data to inform project planning. The position also involves training community members on sustainable practices and participating in the monitoring and evaluation of project outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in implementing community-based climate adaptation and mitigation plans and livelihoods projects.
  • Support workshop facilitation to promote sustainable land management and conservation practices.
  • Lead reforestation and afforestation projects, providing tree seedlings to households and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Conduct community-led climate vulnerability assessments to identify risks and develop resource-sharing agreements.
  • Gather data through surveys and interviews on community livelihoods and climate change impacts, analyzing this data for project planning.
  • Facilitate training sessions for community members, youth, and local leaders on climate-smart practices and sustainable resource management.
  • Collaborate with local organizations, government agencies, and community groups to enhance project effectiveness.
  • Participate in ongoing monitoring and evaluation of project outcomes, providing feedback for future initiatives.
  • Perform any other general administrative duties as assigned by managers.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong organizational and administrative skills, excellent monitoring and reporting abilities, and effective communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential, along with experience in using office software packages such as MS Word and Excel, and knowledge of spreadsheet and data analysis.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a High School diploma with four years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Development Studies, Environmental Science, climate adaptation, environmental management, Social Sciences, or a related field with two years of relevant experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of field experience in project support or community engagement is required for this position. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English (oral and written) is mandatory, and proficiency in Hausa is desirable. IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be evaluated during the selection process.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Nigeria will be considered. The appointment is contingent upon funding confirmation and the candidate's medical fitness for appointment. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar positions for 24 months.
