Job Overview: The Project Assistant (Public Information) will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of communication strategies and plans for IOM Nigeria, specifically under the Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience (CPCRR) Programme. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Chief of Mission, Head of Office, and Media and Communication Officer. The Project Assistant will be responsible for developing engaging social media content, organizing outreach interventions, ensuring donor visibility, and contributing to regular program reports. The role demands creativity, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. The Project Assistant will also assist in implementing peace messaging and campaigns, ensuring that communication efforts align with the program's objectives and resonate with the target audiences in Katsina and Zamfara State.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the implementation of communication strategies under the Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience Programme.
Develop social media content, including videos, text, graphics, and other media formats that inform and engage audiences.
Organize communication outreach interventions tailored to program objectives and audiences.
Ensure donor visibility in all public-facing communication products in line with EU and IOM branding guidelines.
Implement peace messaging and campaigns using various platforms.
Organize media field visits to project sites and media training on conflict-sensitive reporting.
Maintain liaison with community groups, local government authorities, CSOs, and other stakeholders.
Contribute to regular program reports, situation updates, and donor communication materials.
Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma with four years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, or related fields from an accredited institution with two years of relevant professional experience. A minimum of four years of work experience is required for candidates holding bachelor’s degrees, preferably in the West Africa Region. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Candidates should have knowledge of communication for development principles, media engagement, and stakeholder engagement, as well as experience in multimedia production and designing media campaigns.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma with four years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, or related fields from an accredited institution. The educational qualifications must be from recognized institutions, and candidates with a Bachelor’s degree should have at least two years of relevant professional experience. The emphasis is on accredited universities listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that candidates have a solid foundation in the necessary fields.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of four years of work experience in communication, media, or public relations, particularly in conflict-sensitive contexts. Experience in multimedia production, designing and executing media campaigns, and working on humanitarian or development issues related to migration and human trafficking is essential. The ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio of multimedia content production, including photography, videography, and storytelling, along with strong organizational and editorial skills. Proven ability to work effectively in a team and produce quality work under deadlines is also required.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of the Hausa language is desirable, as it will enhance communication with local communities. IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be evaluated during the selection process, which could include written and/or oral assessments.
