Job Overview:
The Senior Project Associate (Peacebuilding) will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of peacebuilding projects in Katsina and Zamfara states, as well as other areas in Northwest Nigeria. This position is vital for coordinating efforts with local communities, government authorities, and various stakeholders to advance peace initiatives and facilitate community engagement. The Senior Project Associate will assist in monitoring project activities and preparing reports on peacebuilding outcomes, contributing to the overall success of the EU-funded Project 'Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience (CPCRR)' Program in Nigeria. The role requires a proactive approach to conflict assessment, community stakeholder engagement, and the organization of training programs aimed at enhancing conflict resolution and reconciliation efforts within the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of peacebuilding and community reconciliation activities as outlined in project proposals.
  • Support conflict assessments by collecting relevant data and contributing to the identification of conflict triggers, dynamics, and potential solutions.
  • Identify and liaise with key community stakeholders, including community leaders, volunteers, and relevant organizations to support dialogue and peacebuilding efforts.
  • Organize and facilitate regular meetings and training sessions to strengthen capacity on conflict resolution and peacebuilding among community members.
  • Prepare and deliver training programs on conflict resolution, reconciliation, and peacebuilding for community members and local authorities.
  • Provide guidance to community members in drafting conflict mitigation and reconciliation action plans.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels within the community.
  • Develop training materials, communication tools, and project documentation to support information dissemination.
  • Prepare and submit regular updates on conflict analysis findings and community-led initiatives. 1
  • Liaise with local authorities and NGOs involved in conflict mitigation and reconciliation. 1
  • Support coordination of meetings and information-sharing among relevant parties. 1
  • Perform any other tasks as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma with six years of relevant working experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Development, Social or Political Sciences, Conflict Management, or a related field from an accredited institution with four years of relevant professional experience. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Candidates should demonstrate experience in coordinating with stakeholders, supporting project implementation related to conflict mitigation and peacebuilding, and possess strong reporting skills. Knowledge of peacebuilding concepts and experience in complex crisis environments will be advantageous.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a High School Diploma with significant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Development, Social or Political Sciences, or Conflict Management. The degree must be from an accredited academic institution recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that candidates have a solid foundation in the principles and practices relevant to peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience if holding a Bachelor’s degree, or six years if holding a High School Diploma. Experience should include coordinating with stakeholders, supporting the implementation of projects related to conflict mitigation and peacebuilding, and working in complex crisis or post-conflict environments. Familiarity with participatory approaches and do-no harm principles in project implementation is also essential. Previous work experience in international organizations is considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory. Additionally, proficiency in a native language of Northwest Nigeria, specifically Hausa, is required. Knowledge of IOM’s official languages, which include French and Spanish, is advantageous but not mandatory. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Nigeria will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification and verification of residency and visa requirements.
